OMonster 14,724
An incredibly defining point in Gaga's career - and it's importance, and implications, kind of just dawned on me. This is really going to be her most important release since TFM. Reflecting on the perception of Katy's 'Small Talk' (and pretty much all of her post-Witness output, too), I'm realising how Katy has really damaged her career at such a pivotal moment. Katy had the opportunity to reinvent herself, to elevate and mature her music - but she didn't take it. As Vice puts it, her new music actually highlights how typical 'pop' music is out of ideas. And whilst I know Gaga doesn't have a 'box' (which was super wise of her) and is able to switch up her approach, I think LG6 is really going to alter her career trajectory very substantially. If Gaga comes out with an underwhelming pop / EDM record that just re-treads old ground in a nostalgic - and not re-inventive - way... I fear that she, and the album, is going to be called out in the same way Katy has been. And this isn't a 'Katy issue' either... it's become a widespread problem with pop artists. Beyonce and Taylor (arguably the two biggest pop stars) have both been called out for their lack of innovation. And beyond simple criticism, these artists' success have also taken a dip as a direct result. The difference with Gaga is that she isn't a crowd-pleaser - she won't try to change her sound or her music to be popular. And so I suspect that if LG6 underperforms or brings her artistic credibility under scrutiny, she will simply 'leave' the pop scene and commit to Jazz and acting. Music has changed so tremendously since Gaga released her last conventional and mainstream pop album (ARTPOP). The scene has even evolved since Joanne, though that isn't the best indicator since it was produced and marketed in a very 'un-Gaga' way. I guess my point is that there's an awful lot riding on this album - and I understand why Gaga is spending her time on it. I expect she is quite nervous regarding it's release, and has probably been very up-and-down regarding what direction to take. Does she go for a Joanne / ASIB hybrid? Or does she return to what made her famous in the first place? Both have their implications. We'll see what happens. But LG6, when we look back in retrospect, is going to be the defining album of her career. Based on it's genre and it's success, her future trajectory will be influenced. subtext / fantasy

SHALLOW 16,459
Sis, i agree that LG6 should be more innovative. But the important thing is that it’s well produced and that will be enough for it not to flop I wouldn’t compare Gaga to Katy at all tbh. Small Talk is just one of the most basic songs i ever heard. imitalian 3,163
Guys.............. We all know some of the producers and although Gaga is very unpredictable its safe to say that the direction is NOT country/ASIBesque. Can you imagine Boys Noize and Sophie go yee-haw? Exactly. That said I agree that this is gonna be a defining album in her career since it's gonna be her first dance (?) album in 6 years. Back to the producers. I think what happened is that the project was too experimental so Interscope wanted to make it more radio friendly and mainstream. This the delay. In her discography so far, TFM has been her most important release. TF introduced her, and TFM confirmed her position and gave her the foundation for the past decade. BTW, whilst incredibly powerful and a fan favourite, was not going to make or break her - it was a continuation of TFM and was always going to receive some success. And the same can be said for ARTPOP, which is probably why it underperformed because it was still running her early steam. C2C / Joanne / ASIB were major shifts in her career - hugely. She was suddenly not a pop star, but a country star, a jazz star and an actress. And now, with LG6 being her first release since this shift... it's going to be interesting to see what she does, and the implications the direction will have. It's going to be the first time she releases an album since defining that shift. Does she do pop? Does she do country/jazz/folk? Whatever she decides, it's going to determine a lot of her future. subtext / fantasy
WitnessEye 306
I really dont care about hers or somebodys chart sucess, just enjoy the music and dont complain about the charts or artistic growth or anything. Music is music and music exist to bring people joy, not a constant arguments and complaining
Hanavel 133
If LG6 is going to be 'half' self-titled, 'Gaga' should be what 'Gaga' is, I mean, craziness, non-conventional, whatever But none of us know how this record will be haha
DitaDolla 11,006
bookmark me, it will be her biggest album. She will be the biggest pop star all over again. And that's because she is different. She doesn't follow trends, she makes them. She is winning again…. somehow she always stays here. I can’t stand it.
