huttont 5,253
Her lyrics are perfection. I find her very theatrical in the way she uses her voice. But also has the voice of an angel. She seems like a truly real and genuine person. The Family Jewels is just a fun, quirky album Electraheart is so emotional and so relatable. I feel so emotionally connected to some of these songs Froot was a slow burn for me. I didn’t truly appreciate it for about a year after it’s release Love and Fear is definitely more mainstream. I think she wanted to try something new and go with a more GP friendly sound. I really like this album

She's a wonderful person and her music is beyond amazing. Her voice is one of a kind and it's so beautiful. I see no reason to not like her. Just now, Lemondeduerl said: Clearly you haven't listened to her. She is one of the best lyricists. Immortal Savages Forget Starring Role Lies Fear & Loathing Hollywood Oh no! Battle 4 Ur Life 6,698
her lyrics are incredibly playful and meaningful at the same time. her voice is unique, she has a very fun approach to her persona and Electra Heart + Froot are among my favorite albums ever. she is not for everyone, especially if you come from mostly a mainstream background. I used to listen to indie music a lot (which is how I got to know her) and when I first heard The Family Jewels I knew she was coming to shake things up in pop music, and she did just that. for me the world would be a lot sadder without her. and she can sing...I don't see any reason not to like her. she is no Gaga but that's cool also. nobody is the same. “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
ice bear 1
i love pizza only... but i like marina because she has the bug of art that won't let her release an album in the same way as the others get ready for marina5 being announced by an exploding space station ice heard one side from above
Lumi 3,512
I think Marina has a very recognisable sound but not all her songs sound the same like... The Family Jewels Electra Heart Froot Love + Fear They sound nothing like each other. + She's fun, beautiful, relatable, her lyrics are really smart, she cares about her concepts, she's amazing live. Like what's not to love? underneath the pine
huttont 5,253
I personally think it’s important to listen to her discography from start to finish. But here are a few of my favorites from each album: Obsessions Oh No! Hollywood Numb Bubblegum Bitch Lies Starring Role How to Be A Heartbreaker Radioactive Froot Forget Savages Immortal Handmade Heaven Orange Trees To Be Human Believe in Love Karma
LaLuna 12,732
I don't Jk, I like her songs, and she's gorgeous of course. I would sell my mother and my cats to have her figure
Diamonster 1,786
Because she's my biological mother I just feel a connection to her and her music, even when it's not all number ones making millions winning grammy's which I don't care about honestly, I just connect with her and her personality and her struggles, and how she puts that down on music. Her last record I didn't like a lot, but I still adore her, she's just not like your typical popstar. I started liking her back when the family jewels was out so I feel I've grown with her, same as Gaga, but with her since she's so much more down to earth and stuff, it feels like a different connection to her stuff. Suspiria 10,683
Why is everyone downplaying Family Jewels as just "a fun quirky album" it's her most relatable lyrically and her most interesting sonically. OT: I definitely agree with those who said you have to listen to her albums from start to finish. If you don't you'll miss out on so much of what makes people love her. Lona Delery 7,214
i dont get the hype either, the only album i like is Froot, Electra Heart had some cute songs but nothing special and L+F is absolute garbage Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride
Reginald 13,841
During her first era, The Family Jewels, in 2010/2011 my then-bf introduced me to her. I immediately fell in love with her kind of kitschy style and tongue in cheek lyrics. We went to go see her on tour when Electra Heart came out (Icona Pop was the opening act), and briefly met her after the show. I really admire her songwriting, and style of expression. "Sex, Yeah" is my most personally-meaningful song she's released so far
crybrowz 3,247
She has a very unique voice and is an incredible songwriter. She wrote the whole Froot album entirely on her own. She wrote about half of TFJ by herself too. And even when she co-writes she still is the primary writer. The topics in some of her songs are really interesting (Solitaire, Savages, Immortal, Are you satisfied, Sex Yeah, Fear & loathing, To Be Human to name a few). A lot of them are about the human psyche and human nature in general, and her perspective on it is really interesting. And aside from her last album, the production on her albums are great too. TFJ is quirky, alternative, odd-ball, upbeat piano pop. EH is more early 2010's electro-pop, not that far off from what the main pop girls were doing at that time, definitely her most commercial sounding album. Froot has a lot of live instrumentation and is a good mixture between upbeat and slower songs, the focus on this album being more on the lyrics and her voice (her best album imo, the title track is out of this world). L+F kinda falls flat but you should still listen to Handmade Heaven, To be Human, Believe in Love and Emotional Machine- those are some bops.
