I wasn't there, but my friend was in a restaurant , and texted me, telling me their was a shooter at times square and that she was at a restaurant, and didn't know what was going on, fortunately it wasn't a shooting, but holy sh*t, its sad that Americans are always on alert of a mass shooting because they happen all the time, it shocks me, coming from a country where mass shootings are extremely uncommon, and when one happens, it takes the entire country MONTHS to recover, and action is put in place after these shootings, that these happen like every f*cking day,

anyways, here is the article in the New York times

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/07/nyregion/shootings-panic-anxiety.html

Lets do it baby I know the Law

it's really sad that it's gotten to that point but I also can't help but cackle :bradley: someone's just trying to turn on their old motorcycle and Times Square empties :nooo:

I was just asking someone today if backfiring actually sounds like a gunshot, that would be scary and mass panic just as scary

I'm the total opposite. Living in rural ass Florida but near the ghetto, we hear gunshots (plural) daily so we're just like "meh...". It's usually not someone being shot :poot:

Hurricanes, gunshots, and giant reptiles. Things that Floridians don't even flinch at.

the same thing happened at Global Citizens Music Festival in Central park last year. There was a huge stampede because people thought they heard gunshots but it was just the sound of a speaker malfunctioning. Meanwhile the entire festival, which is free, was in complete chaos, kids were separated from parents, and so many people got trampled. this country is pathetic

I mean...being scared is totally reasonable.

Shootings are one of the few things that are becoming more common as time goes on so this 5 year old graph isn't very encouraging.

SO I was there y’all in a theatre that people ran into from the street.  They caused a panic in the theatre and we thought there was a shooter in the theatre. Very scary. We ran out of the theatre
