The unreleased extended version of Bad Kids. Why did she keep that?

Cuff me up sir I'm mad
At the relationshop I got
Between my ass and your badge
I smoke, but I'm not into candy no-class
Though there might be some illegal ****

In my meat dress, I've got guns,
up under my thumbs
Manicure is slick
You mad that my tips longer than your *click*?

Just a freedom hussy
Rebel fashion junkie
And I wanna serve my country
In the best way that I could be

So don't ask, 'cause I'll tell
you I'm free, while you dwell
Throw your hands up in the crowd
Cause if you're bad kid and you're proud

I think when she sang the Sound of Music it really was a risk because her image until then was largely eccentric and over the top and everyone expected her to be like that forever. This was the first performance she did in a major tv awards show where she toned everything down and it was great because it put her voice in the focus and the general public was impressed

To release this on a pop album is so ****ing BALLSY, she doesn't get enough credit for BTW and how spectacular it was, even if some of the songs didn't reach their full potential  That album was a balls to the wall, no compromise punch in the face and it'll probably never be surpassed in that sense :nooo:

I would add Government Hooker operatic intro (and to some extent the entire Beat) and Bloody Mary bridge.

Gaga made magic with this album. BTW was so unconventional, heavy loaded and organic. It was a patchwork of many influences and sounds yet Gaga managed to build something cohesive and that is working. And in that sense BTW is definitelly her most expérimental piece of work.

Another daring musical moment has to be Princess Die. The contrast between the heavy suicidal lyrics and the calm, almost happy singing and melody is just so daring. You can hear that the character she portrays is completelly at peace with her decision to end her life and it sort of glamourize the whole thing. It's one of her most controversial song for me yet it's genius. In some way it reminds me of that song from Mylène Farmer called C'est Une Belle Journée (It's a beautiful day) which talk about the character going to end her life and calling it the best day. But that song is even more impressive because she NEVER mentions death or her suicidal thoughts, she just says "I'm going to sleep" and a reference to "biting the eternity". To the people not reading between the lines she's just singing about having a nice day and going to sleep. Ugh genius

One of the most daring songs in her discography has to be Swine:firega:

Not only does she sings about a very touchy and emotional subject, it’s also sung in such a raw way. You feel her anger and sadness throughout the whole song.

Sonically it’s very unlike any other song she ever released. It’s an underrated masterpiece that gets me every time:pray:

Musically, Bloody Mary, Black Jesus, Venus and ARTPOP seem quite daring and unusual for Gaga... sadly she never followed up on that sound

Scheiße, Bloody Mary, and Aura come to mind. The fake German in Scheiße was pretty out there, and to pair it with the pure ear-candy of the chorus was such a creative choice and it works perfectly. Musically and melodically, Aura is quite strange and out there (especially the intro and the hahaha part), but she went with it and it worked. I also think Bloody Mary in general is unlike anything else I’ve ever heard. It feels so bold, especially for a pop album, and to this day it’s one of my favorites.

Telephone (acoustic) / Dance In The Dark live @ Brit Awards.  She could easily have performed Bad Romance or Paparazzi and yet she came up with this unexpected experimental art piece.

"musical moment" makes me think of something she has done, not just from a song.

I think her VMAs performance of Paparazzi was daring.  She was pretty new in her career, but got on stage singing with blood running down her. She  made a statement and it was made well.

Agreed. It's hard to do something like that as a newbie or nobody (eg. Adam Lambert at the AMAs). Unless you are established, people will think you are trying too hard.

Now you just made me watch it again

Her transitioning from Dance Music and Electro-Pop to a more country-rock influenced pop music.

I have to get an honorable mention out there to Americano too though  I still can't believe she somehow pulled off a perfect marriage between hardcore electronic beats and orchestral mariachi touches. Like who the **** thinks of that :air: Again, a song that doesn't get enough credit I think. Name me one other pop star who ever did a song like that :diane:

I was so in love with this song when I first heard it. So much I made my dad listen to it and he said it sounds like an Eastern European country's entry for Eurovision. I can't unhear it and I'm conflicted ever since.

Not sure if it’s a “daring musical moment,” but the piano on Swine … and then branching that out into the bold reality of incorporating piano / keys into her catalogue as a solo pop star with the breadth of genre incorporation / styles, and that prominence in mainstream consumption (not necessarily mainstream structured music; mainstream consumption meaning songs distributed to a mass market … regardless of reception, none of the music is really marketed as niche by industry standards)

Maybe it’s more common than I’m considering, but felt like she really injected a lot of piano / keys into the pop repertoire from a solo artist / pop star pov

TL;DR how she incorporates pianos in the spectrum of her pop discography feels bold, but kind of understated — and the keytar, that keytar.

Sound Of Music Tribute:

Crazy performances are in fact dating, yet for a woman to dedicate so much time to prepare her voice to sing a song out of her normal range flawlessly while also toning down her image to tribute a great film/actress was her biggest dare.

When it was announced she was doing that tribute even I was confused as to why but she killed it. Still my fav to this day.

May I Read You? 😎
