I guess I'm also (maybe irrationally so) afraid that she might hold back on her work.

I've enjoyed all of her albums, some more than others, but on each and every one of them it is so easily palpable that there is an something that is just bursting at the seams, in the best way possible. I feel like, as fans and also as consumers of music, we can easily see this when she is performing live.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I hope these next albums can be a conduit to push her to express her musicality to its furthest extent. Sometimes it feels like there are pressures that hold some of it back?

Remember Glory? :neyde: A good album wasted because of her team and Las Vegas. That is my fear.

My only worry is she’ll become one of those artists who thinks a world tour is US & Canada and she won’t even promote outside of North America and focus on US charts like Billboard only.

Or rhat she’ll resign to lengthen Enigma and waste her first club album in 6-7 years 💀

I hope it's not controversial to think that I feel like certain things hold her back sometimes! I feel like not so much with her first three albums, as she was probably given an okay amount of encouragement and freedom, considering she was a star hit-maker at that time.

But, with ARTPOP there was management issues, label interference, and over-extended production middling. With Joanne, even if she was probably given much more freedom within the label itself, there was probably a lot of pressure from recovering into a "comeback", thus giving us an album that is well-written and well-performed, but is ultimately and effectively safe

From a broader perspective, it has definitely worked in her and her team's favor. I hate the term "rebranding", but they were all able to create a pathway for Gaga to "prove" to the rest of the world why she is essentially one of the most talented pop artists out there- more acclaim for her musicianship and artistry through awards and industry respect.

But now I think is the time for her to put her musical risk-taking hat on again, I think. It's not the perfect album, but the no-holds barred shutzpah of Born This Way is my personal biggest reference point of how she could push the limitations of the expectations standard pop music. She touches on it occasionally, but I'd love for her to ram into it full force again.

Cheek to Cheek and ASIB are non-factors in my argument regarding extraneous pressures, I think. That said, it should be noted that they are still great works from her, and part of that might come from a lack of "main album" pressure in creating them? idk

That there isn't gonna be a powerful ballad, the album can be anything but if it doesn't have that than I'm gonna flip :ladyhaha:

I agree with all of that :worship2:

Most critics saw right through Joanne and justifiably called it out for being half-hearted. She conquered anyway with the success of Million Reasons and ASIB which was basically an extension of Joanne, but it's important she gets attention for her music again. Shallow did what none of the songs on Joanne could do and that says something.

The only intelligent way forward for her is to captivate people with a captivating, inspiring and respectable musical product. She can't pull off another "look at me look at me I'm doing something different!" move, she's played all her cards at this point, which puts her in a very fragile position. She got public attention and respect back by ditching all of her "gimmicks" and showing the talent underneath. If she doesn't prove to everyone that that was not just a publicity stunt we need to see an authentic musical outpouring of that talent. She can obviously do it. I hope she built up enough trust with her label over the years to allow her to take that leap

I have no worries. I just want listen it, find my favorites and listen what she wants to share about the process and concept. And i already decided that i will log out for a couple days when the album is out. Listen the album peacefully, don't want bad and too harsh opinions to mess my mood, sometimes unfortunately i let it mess with my me. If it isn't my cup of tea, no worries, i will find out some songs on the album that i will enjoy for sure.

Not sure if AP but no RedOne before his retirement from music :messga:

And not asking for the 2008/9/10 sound back, to be clear.  People get dragged for that for whatever reason.  Just want to hear more than Angel Down :tony:

Totally. Outside of the album, I think it is mostly fans that understand that the "authenticity" of Joanne is as authentic and inauthentic as her previous personas for previous albums, kind of like how her ASIB promo "humble movie starlet" persona is as authentic and inauthentic. I think a lot of the general public might be catching on to that, also- surprisingly, I think Vegas helped with that a lot. Like, people are finally seeing Gaga for the multifaceted artists that she is.

Now, for the better and for the worse, I think a lot of the focus on this upcoming album will be on the music itself- not the visuals, not the glamour, not the media drama (lets pretend the horrendous Bradley fan-fiction drama is a non-factor), but the substance of the music itself. Everything else is second.

I agree with you in that it's the time to blow expectation out of the water. I know people might immediately conflate "good, authentic, honest" music with a certain style, and Gaga's even played with that- now, I want her to defy that.

I know she can. The question is whether or not she will.

Honestly my biggest fear for It is that It will not come this year. I am feeling It because we are literaly getting no signs and teasers and Haus Beauty and Enigma suck
