Lighter 15,376
Not bubblegum pop OOTB-Prism pre-witness-political-NROpop her roots ROOTS https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHpyh3V-0kGkV2_JtxRJtdYHT8n6Gl1Op All she wanted forever was to be taken seriously as an artist. It’s sooo obvious. trying to have a dark era with Prism but failed. Witness. No explanation needed. so why not just go back to her most authentic and raw start. It’s either she has completely become a sellout, and have this mindset that she can Be critically acclaimed without moving outside the pop arena. or capitol records is hindering her. They need to give her a chance to find that space back. Her songwriting and the pureness is something that’s been lost from her craft for so long. And it will benefit her bigtime. Didymus 34,379
Of course her label is hindering her. She literally said she wanted to record a Janis Joplin album and then released Witness She's a pop star. Every pop star sells out upon signing the contract. That's part of the deal. I don't think she's unhappy though. She seems like someone who's really in tune with the "pop star game", likes to be strategic with it and has a healthy separation in her head between her celebrity self and her personal life. CautiousLurker 19,433
I agree with you 100%, she should do away with the degenerate Satan-worshiping harlot persona, and hit me up with that God-abiding, Jesus-loving christian teen goodness I've learned to know and love Amen It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

She may claim that she's learned to "stick to her guns" since 2014 but Interscope still forced her to change the original sound for C2C to make it more commerical and still (seemingly) forced her to work with electronic producers for Joanne even though she wanted the album to sound analog and rootsy. I'll never understand why Bloodpop had to "polish" all the songs they had. From what I can hear his "polishes" ruined the original tracks with unnecessary electronic rubbish. Didymus 34,379
1 minute ago, Lighter said: can you tell me more about original c2c? Well, one of Tony's musicians gave an interview about how they had prepared a full musical set-up for C2C to work with and Gaga came in and told them the band was going to be replaced and brought in a ton of new songs that sounded more like "popular" jazz and were less musically complex. He made it seem like it was Gaga's artistic decision but I doubt that I think it was Interscope pressuring her in a "if you wanna do jazz, fine, but make sure it's not this or that" way, like they probably did with Joanne as well. Father John Misty also made that comment about how both Gaga and Beyoncé were "prisoners" of the industry and were pressured to stay on the commercial, radio friendly side of things even though they both tried to venture out of that. I hope as time goes by we'll get more candid Gaga statements about all of these things. At the time she released her first four albums she didn't say anything bad about Interscope either and then suddenly in 2014 she dropped that "Interscope had all of my studio vocals changed to take the vibrato out" bomb She's at least hinted at the fact that she can't choose which songs are on the record (at least that's what I gathered from her story about Applause). I'm sure there's more to come along the way.

She said his additional production helped her and Mark to make the songs go somewhere because before they were too retro, or something among this line, whether it was her wish or her label is unknown but I guess she wanted Joanne to a little modern. Do you remember where she said that about C2C though? I've never heard it before.

Yeah but that statement is so weird Like, why would it being too retro be Gaga's problem? That just reeks of Interscope meddling with the final sound imo. Maybe we'll find out in the future. But yeah, I basically took that as confirmation that Bloodpop was sent in to make the whole thing more commercial because Interscope feared it wouldn't sell otherwise. Edit: I addressed the C2C thing above to another user. Currently trying to find the interview again.

But I think the thing that has been the most powerful has been, there’s a part of me that has been quiet for a long time that is now being reawakened, after years of producers and record label people telling me to make my voice sound more radio-friendly. “Since The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way, they’ve been auto-tuning it more, or changing the timbre. They take the vibrato out so you sound like a robot.” They bother over fking vibratos I can’t
