I agree that the way journalists and mass media report violent crime has had feedback effects. We are now in the 24 hour news cycle, which incidentally took off about 30 years ago. In many respects these big media corporations encourage men to create violent, public spectacles. Remember the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995 or the Unabomber? These all happened right after 24 hour cable news stations took off. Columbine happened not long after. Sadly, social media is compounding the phenomenon: the Christchurch gunman livestreamed his murderous rampage for all to see. Technology and media AS WELL as politics and religion all have played a part.

I don't want to argue about 'frequency' or such, but an undeniable fact is that mass shootings in America have increased in scale and deadliness thanks to the wide accessibility of MASS killing weapons - the automatic rifle, as well as constant hate fuel, particularly racial and religious. A quick wiki search of the 25 deadliest U.S. mass shooting events of ALL TIME showed me that of those 25, 15 are from THIS decade.

This is not a case of media data manipulation. Potential shooters have definitely become more emboldened to 'take on' these large scale bloodbaths.

I'm not defending him at all. Trump's real thoughts on the issue have always been clear, and his TelePrompTer (idk why auto-correct added those caps) speech seemed like a lazy attempt at saving face on mainstream news.
