It's not her responsibility to know that he is sampling or stealing a beat/sound/etc. That would be every artist having to then learn about production. Remember when Ryan Tedder sold the same exact production to Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson? So, Kelly was very scared to release Already Gone as the single because she didnt want anyone to assume that she ripped off Beyonce. There was no legal action because he simply sold the beat/track to 2 different artists and its list frowned upon, but it wasnt the artists fault. It was the producers. Halo and Already Gone were being made around the same time. So, if stuff like this happens, I think it should be on the producer. But isn't she involved in the production of the track? I dont know if Katy works like Gaga, hands on you know. But on the other hand. I don't think Dr. Luke should pay at all cause he is hired, an employee. The ones paying should be is boss, the one that aproves and supervises his work. But yeah, it's Luke fault, but it's dumb to be him and Katy paying. It should be the label. Inferno 2,880
I think people suing over stuff like this gets so petty and dumb. HOWEVER, I don't like her so i dont care as much as i could. And also, no one is ever this sympathetic when it comes to gaga. the media and pop stans make a point to act like its just further proof of her plagiarism. yet when its katy perry all of a sudden everyones finally using it as an opportunity to discuss how petty these kinds of accusations/lawsuits are. so annoying how she always somehow gets to slide past controversy. even with witness it wasnt as bad as it could have been lol call me petty i already know, i just have to admit how annoying that double standard between them continues to be to me. cant feel too sorry for her tbh or the situation. BTW was an exception though That was between two pop legends. This is about some irrelevant nobody trying to earn millions. Madonna never made a penny from the whole BTW controversy (except the royalties she paid to be able to perform it on her own tour). Or are you referring to another case? If it's the "hoodrat" situation, I think most people just found that funny, I didn't see anyone defend her assistant at the time. And the BR lawsuit literally everyone made fun of, just like the John Wayne/Scissor Sisters thing that spread for a day and then died.

Shadow 6,639
It's Dr. Luke's fault if anything. He needs to stop recycling tunes. He might fool the kids, but not the copyright lawyers. We live in a brave new world where the lack of originality leaves much to be desired. Or maybe as a society, we need to rethink copyright laws and how music is produced in the future. Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

That one was more based on the sensational headlines obviously and there was never a lawsuit it was just scandalized in the media at a time she was at her zenith so of course, big news big deal. but shes also had other lawsuits i.e. Judas, as has Madonna and a lot of artists honestly. But there is always this double standard between her and Katy in general (which is what i was referring to really not just song lawsuits) within the media, like by comparison, Katy gets away with A LOT while usually everyones trying to give Gaga a slap on the wrist for one thing or another. I feel like that cant even be denied lol As cringeworthy and lame and fake as Katy was throughout Witness (and her whole career quite honestly) people usually let her slide and shes always allowed back in. Whereas, people hold this weird grudge against Gaga to this day. Theres a lot to be argued as to why that is but off the cuff, thats just my pov. Like, I honestly just never encountered it beyond stan wars I don't personally believe Gaga has been commercially allowed to evolve in the eyes of the public as effortlessly as her peers have (Rihanna, Beyonce, Ariana even etc). People made their minds up about Lady Gaga the pop artist at her peak and on the whole havent bothered to go back and re-evaluate past negative perceptions on a massive scale. In the same way people go back and revisit the aforementioned artists discography despite having grown up with Gaga all the same. Like yes, clearly ASIB has exceeded expectations which is great, but at the same time for a lot of people I think theyre looking at it from a perspective of being in spite of her past work if that makes sense. And I also dont think it appeals with the same respect of her golden years arguably. Like this is all evident in her commercial performance over the years and social media traffic as well. And of course, its all apart of a larger discussion where one must go into her albums and what shes bringing to the table. Im not stating this as concrete fact but my own observations as someone that pays too much attention. And not just to Gaga, but pop music in general. Not concluding this in a vacuum. River 117,814
It seems like people don't get it when they say that Luke needs to pay all of this and not Katy. All the writers and producers of the song needs to pay, so Katy is credited as a writer so she pays, it's pretty simple, even Juicy J, even though he's part is only his verse and did nothing else with the song process, needs to pay.. If she was not credited, she wouldn't need to pay. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
