Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.” According to Dr. Johanna Olson, assistant professor of adolescent medicine at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, there’s really no clear consensus as to what the right age to make these determinations is, as some children may just exhibit gender nonconforming behaviors before puberty and should not be labeled transgender. “The truth is that we don’t really know whether that child who is gender non-conforming in childhood is going to go on to have a trans identity in adolescence or adulthood,” she told the Human Rights Campaign. “What we do know is that by the time kids reach adolescence, if they have a gender identity that is different from their sex assigned at birth, that it is very likely that they will continue on to have that gender identity.” “Medical and psychological experts, and parents of children who are transgender, have long discredited the ideas that Mario Lopez shared last month,” GLAAD told PEOPLE in a statement. “The real ‘dangerous action’ is when someone with a public platform uses bad science to speak against a marginalized and vulnerable group of children. What he said was obviously not meant to be offensive anyway, and I hate the current SJW climate where celebrities can't even express their opinions without being called bigots or whatever, and have to issue apologies for even the most minor things just to get people off their backs. Freedom of speech is dead. when i say i dislike SJW's people in general like to twist it and make it seem like i meant I HATE "Democrats" or "Liberals" and that's just not the case. I mean i DISLIKE people that think feelings are more important then Opinions and shut people up when their opinion hurts someone, and this can happen from republicans and democrats (usually the far right and far left) . Like I'm not gonna bow down and apologize just because i hurt one persons feelings. But back on topic, i really do dislike this climate right now. I don't think he needed to apologize, although it was very thoughtful of him to do so anyways. If i were him I would've stood by my opinion and not responded. So kudos to him.
