This time, she isn’t suing her daughter, she’s suing school and medical officials who supported her daughter’s right to decide to transition.

E.J.K. moved out in 2015 and was emancipated at age 15. The legal procedure terminates parental rights and declares the juvenile an adult and capable of making legally-binding decisions on their own.

”Unbelievably, Minnesota statutes authorize a county to deem a minor ‘emancipated’ to receive welfare payments to live on their own and allow medical providers to void parental input if it determines the minor is living apart from the parents and is managing his or her own personal financial affairs,” Erick Kaardal, an attorney for the Thomas More Society, said in a statement.

That is how the law works – for a reason. That can be incredibly important for LGBTQ youth especially who are frequently kicked out of their homes after coming out. Leaving kids who have been abandoned or forced out of their homes without access to housing, medical care, or a way to pay bills is simply cruel.

lost in limbo

Literally wtf is she basing her lawsuit on?? her daughter has been emancipated so she technically doesn't have anything to do with her besides being her bio mom, I'm confused

regardless, she needs to stfu and stay far away from her daughter

this is the state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight

Why was the daughter emancipated?

If I had a daughter or son and they decide to transition, I would support it, but I disagree with the government or schools doing it without my consent. Im the parent of the minor who is under age, its not up to government and school to decide.

If we could sue anyone for wanting to do something in their lives that you don't agree with, there would be a long line at court... how is this even allowed then? Why not allow people to sue their exes for dating someone new? Or for getting a new haircut? Or for deciding to move out in an island? If you follow that logic then all of this should be allowed as well. It's very biased and wrong to allow this to happen in the first place and the country should start questionning its laws

well the daughter has been emancipated so...the mom can’t really do anything about it and should just support her

Trans kids in particular often face a lot of backlash, trauma, and even blackmail from their parents who will never try to understand or support their identity and will even gaslight them and try to terrify them into not existing. My mother constantly mocks me for my nonbinary identity (including pronouns and gender expression) and has made countless threats to remove me from university and destroy my standard of living due to it and other political differences.

Emancipation is exactly what it sounds like, giving children the means to support themselves when they don't receive such from their parents or guardians. Often the most toxic people and relationships are from people who think they are in the right, so it's necessary to remove them from the decision

Oh ok then I support it only if the child is emancipated.

People like this need to learn the sentiment of unconditional love! I just hope she finds some peace in life and not waste it on vile irrational anger!
