MONTREAL (JTA) — Canadian Jews for a third straight year were the most targeted minority group for hate crimes in the country, thought there was a 4 percent decrease.

The data for crimes reported to police in 2018 was released on Monday by Statistics Canada. The number of incidents dropped to 345 from 360 in 2017.

Other minorities saw more significant declines. Hate crimes against Muslims fell 50 percent, to 173, and blacks saw a 15 percent drop to 283.

In 2018, Canadian police responded to 1,798 hate crimes, compared to 2,073 in 2017.

“We are encouraged to see an overall decline in hate crimes, [but] this data confirms the persistence of Jew hatred, which is seeing an alarming global rise,” Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs CEO Shimon Koffler Fogel said.

The numbers show that hate crimes against Jews remain an “urgent concern,” B’nai Brith Canada President Michael Mostyn said.

This might not be true, but I was told growing up that christians were forbidden from lending money/banking in general because of something in the new testement & jewish people obviously didn't have the restriction, so they were more likely to be bankers/etc. From there it was mostly just scapegoating them for everything.

Oh I have a christian religious background. Tho I'm not really active my parents are Jehovah's Witness

Anyway there was some passage I don't remember where about how when you lend money to someone you shouldn't take advantage of them and charge them interest

But I think that was general morals of how u treat your friends and family

It wasn't about business... Like u can own a bank and charge interest that way...

But my knowledge of Jews and Christians is limited so if u say that's what it is I can't really argue. I just don't know

Conspiracy theories eg. Jews secretly rule the world, are the most powerful people, want to destroy the “white race”, are behind capitalism, are behind communism  etc.

The nonsense

But yeah I vaguely remember hearing about stuff like this

There's very few Jews where I live so there's not much talk about them if at all

The most common backgrounds in my city are: Indian, Iranian, Pakistani, Bangladesh, Jamaican, Trinadadian, Italian and Portuguese

The most common religious beliefs are: Muslim, Sikh, Catholic, Agnostic and Atheist

Jews would be an extreme minority where I live. I can't remember the last time I met one. Maybe that's why I know so little about them. I never deal with them

Fear mongering. Jews are often seen as untrustworthy because of the high social positions that many have, causing loads of conspiracies that the Jewish are trying to takeover the world/control the world, etc. This has lead people to use Jews a scapegoat for their problems (most notable hitler, but that’s just the main example in a large sea) and are often targeted by hate groups, mostly far right. And with current controversy with the Israeli government, it’s making these stigmas much harder to combat.
