No Plus Size Models In Haus Labs Ads?

I mean if you speak out against this, it says a lot. A simple idea of wanting more representation isn’t bad...

modeling as always been categorized as a skinny person thing. Would be cool to see that challenged more. I mean why not? I’m not sure it’s worth mocking the idea of plus size being shown.

Again it’s weird that people are so hardcore against this by using swearing and mocking language. There’s a line to where you should disagree with the OP.

So did you skip posts where it’s said “fat people shouldn’t be shown because it promotes unhealthy lifestyle”, “everyone is born skinny”, “some say it’s a disease”, “showing fat people is not profitable” etc?

You are naturally skinny, good for you (you also have representation in beauty ads), but many are struggling to achieve that and seeing only one body type in all beauty commercials all the time is not very encouraging. It’s also implied, in this thread, that only skinny is healthy and normal and anything plus is unhealthy and abnormal. That is insulting. Like eating disorders and drugs and pressure don’t exist in model industry. But according to some, as long as they look like that - it’s promoting health.  Plus size people should just stay hidden, they don’t exist, if they dare to say something, they should be shamed.

I didn’t skip any of that and I agree that plus sized representation matters but I find it comical how you guys try to shame people for being too skinny and not looking ‘regular’ enough. I mean who gets to decide what’s regular? America is more obese than a lot of other nations, what’s regular there might not be considered regular someplace else.

All I’m saying is that we need to respect everyone and not bring someone down for the sake of uplifting someone else.

Thank you omg :air:

Why do I suddenly feel like I'm on a far right forum here :rip: Why are so many people here taking over the far right's "stop oppressing us with your demands about inclusivity and diversity!!!" rhetoric wtf is going on :awkney:

So sad that a gay majority can't even understand the social benefits of being represented in things like this :madge: No one's even attacking Gaga or the brand omg we're simply wishing for more diversity for its own sake. And people here will even criticize that?  Very troubling to me.

It would be nicer if there were different body types, yes  It doesn't need to be a clothing line to represent more people  It's not a make or break at all and this isn't her being against other body types (not saying you insinuated that anyway :laughga:) but it's never wrong to be more inclusive in advertising

Well, imagine we said the same when it was all white people  That's not a very admirable philosophy to follow, especially when your brand is dedicated to celebrating diversity :rip:

It's not that big a deal because we know Gaga cares about this issue and will probably have realized this little mistake on her own already :air: Somehow I feel like you guys aren't giving her enough credit in this thread. I really, sincerely do not think Gaga would agree with the people in here saying "it's make-up who cares", "being fat is a lifestyle so they shouldn't be represented" etc. :wtf: Do you guys really believe she would?

Of course not, but like I said it's already more diversified than a lot of fashion brand, they can't have all models meeting every possible variation and body type, although in this case I think it should have more diverse sizes. But I'm already glad that some of the models here and their style don't necessarily meet society's standards of what's considered normal and beautiful. I'm sure she will choose more diverse-sized models in the future, we know it's a subject that has personally affected her. This and people who don't look like usual models, who look more average or different, it would be nice.

Are you including me in these people who say "it's make-up who cares" and "being fat is a lifestyle so they shouldn't be represented" because I'm not :poot:

100% agree!  It's such a shame that the people who have a platform and also send us messages of love and self-acceptance fall into the trap of typically including only the normative body types.  Even with back-up dancers, heavier set folks can dance so why not include them in videos or tours?

Thanks for the post.  One can enjoy something but also critique it at the same time (something some folks on here don't understand).

I hate how some here feel the need to “cyber police” everything. This is a forum after all and things should be discussed. We have that right. The OP wasn’t being being mean about and just sharing an opinion. I for one do I agree. I think she could have used a wider range of models because I think some of them look like they were in the TF one.

I can see they are going for a high fashion look but Gaga is known for putting a slight twist and making bold decisions. So it would have been cool to hire less conventional looking models and there are out there, she has the resources and connections. Maybe later she would do it but that’s my 2 cents.

You said that there’s not even one regular sized model in the ad. How can you say that they’re not regular sized?

Girl why are you trying so hard to analyze every word I wrote but can so dismissive at the ad that has been presented to the entire world.

It's a language barrier. Spanish is my first language. In spansh regular means the same as median. Which means middle.

That's why in my comment I literally said, "It's not even about plus size. All the models are all waifs. There isn't even a regular sized girl or guy in the ads."

As in a median between plus size and thin.

Anything else you want to dissect about my comment so you can be "offended."

I agree, there's a serious lack of representation for Latinos, Asians, etc. imo just because you don't feel upset doesn't mean that others shouldn't feel upset. And just to be clear, I am not upset but was more-so doing a dialogue on a potential missed opportunity. Because I can see how others here feel underrepresented and become upset, and I do think those feelings are legitimate. So especially when the face of the product thrives on these themes, there's a discussion to be had. Isn't this the point of a forum? lol

The discussion can be had. I was contributing, and in contributing, I was saying that this whole situation is nowhere near as deep as people have been making it

Snowflakes making a MAKEUP campaign about body positivity... um.

I hate that people expect media campaign to have a list of opressed minorities that they need to include in their promo material or they’ll be considered ignorant. What a dumb world we live in.

You're really missing the point. Snowflakes?
It's not just a random media campaign. It's Gaga's campaign. So I more-so discuss Gaga's themes of diversity, representation, and opportunity, and how successfully/unsuccessfully those themes are demonstrated in the executive choices. Big bold diversity has been a unique selling proposition throughout Gaga's history. Idk why we can't have a dialogue about this, but I'm starting to identify who the snowflakes really are lol.

See, that’s the thing about you guys, you need to put someone down to uplift someone else. Why couldn’t you just say that we need more plus sized representation? Why did you have to imply that those models are unhealthy? It’s disrespectful and rude.

That's what I intended in my OP. To discuss opportunities for representation. And I definitely think that your point about being bullied for being skinny is an important one. It's also a big part of this dialogue; the opportunity to get as diverse as possible, even for something as commercial as a makeup ad. Considering that Gaga has consistently pushed the commercial envelope time and time again.
I JUST WANTED A NICE TALK *runs away* lmao  :nooo:

"Snowflakes", the best way to begin arguing a point against others :emma:

Nowhere did the OP say that they need to include oppressed minorities in the promo material otherwise it's ignorant  They simply stated that it would've been nicer to have a more diverse range of body types within the campaign so far because of Gaga's message of expression and so on. The makeup line is not being bashed, the campaign is not being bashed, and Gaga is not being bashed.
