i just think its funny to how she started off the era in a wig cap, dissecting the idea of the performer, and "stripping it all away" and by the end of the album era was wearing this:

is one any less ARTPOP than the other? no. but is one definitely more evolved and interesting? yes.....

EXACTLY

ARTPOP era evolved so gracefully to encompass so many forms of artistic movements and disciplines. You can see that evolution in the countless street outfits she wore during the era:firega:

...the shade :what:

It could be taken as shade, but it's not lol. It's my favorite album of hers. It's colorful, it's thematically messy, it took risks, and it's an electro-pop explosion. The cover symbolizes that well.

Spoiler

by the way who is in your profile pic? :lolly:

I’m not really a fan, I would have preferred one of the pictures of the first shoot be the cover.

though I still don't get why they didn't photograph the actual statue and replaced it with a digital model instead...

I still don't get why people think so.

The cover is a picture of the statue, it's just digitally colorized and they addes texture to it.

It obviously doesn't seem like a statue so the point of actually using a statue is still unkown to me, but it IS  a statue :laughga:

O.T., I would have preferred the pic on the circuit chair or the one with those strange glasses :flutter:

Ive always felt that the I&V shoot would have been better for the album as it would present a calm juxtiposition for the wild high energy music.

I just find myself wishing she released a ton of different editions all made by different visual artists :diane: That would've been epic. If the official cover we got was just one of the different options I think a lot more people would've liked it. I also would've loved to see this one in stores right next to it:

etc.

Then again, I also love the simplicity of this one:

So yeah, there probably were better choices.

Damn i‘d need to buy every single one, so i‘m actually glad there‘s just one cover:ladyhaha:

it's sort of like, my past is an unfinished painting..

No, it’s not. It’s very very obviously Gaga herself. The face, the hair, and the fingers are far too human looking to be a statue.

i feel like the beginning of the era started off visually one way, more muted, a little darker, more mature, yet still very very whimsical and artistic. almost bjork esque, especially with all the inez and vonoodh images/fashion film. the applause single art i think was so so so  mature and meta, a new era for gaga but the music i don't think was as evolved as thata imagery, so in the end, the more naive, messier aesthetic fits the music better.

Absolutely.

I think I hold on to the imagery and aesthetic that she was holding in the first few months of that phase (including Applause), because I thought the music was going to match it. I loved that dark, moody, arty, mysterious tone it held.

I think it was noted somewhere that the image on the cover is actually the detailed, digital rendering of the statue created from the photoshoot seen in the booklet. It was probably the digital model used to laser cut the actual statue itself.

I theorize it has to do with management pushing her to go more minimalistic and as we all know, it was all falling apart. Part of why it turned into this D.I.Y. aesthetic mess was her rebelling against Troy and whomever else was pushing a more attractive visual story. She just made everything uglier and uglier and more vibrant and absurd. All of this evidenced by that V magazine interview where her team talked about them focusing on crazy textures and fabrics rather than over the top costumes that go-round which clearly Gaga threw out the f*cking window like a week or two in lol which is a shame because it was all looking so damn good. however, i do agree, did not match the music but it definitely would have at least on a subconscious level made the album come across less tacky.
