Trump plan could kick 3 million off food stamps

I don't get why some voters expected someone who was born with a silver spoon to understand the struggles in poverty.

This is sad.

I fell down the stairs once as an actor.

After reading the article, I don’t think it’s that bad (this is coming from someone living off food stamps). It said that some states have programs that automatically qualify citizens with food stamps, which even includes millionaires. I think that’s what’s being changed.

Though it’s kind of screwy to put a cut-off on the aid people receive because of salary. If a person is applying for food stamps, then they need them. (At least in my state) the amount they give each month is determined by your monthly salary, meaning you get more or less depending on many factors. When I used to work at a grocery store, I would see so many balances of people’s cards, even after being loaded, their cards would only have around $20 in them, and some people would have close to $400. It all depends on the needs of the people.

I have people with EBT cards getting fancy smoothies at the juice bar at my store and I'm always confused by that. If anything, food stamps should be limited to what you can buy in my opinion. I've never really understood the whole process though, so I'm a little ignorant of the issue.

But at the same time, why punish people on food stamps if the US needs to save money? This is only the beginning with the Trump admin as they'll eventually pull from social security and medicaid.

I don’t think this is a bad thing. When I worked at Walgreens, I saw so much abuse with food stamps. People walk up to the register and plop their BMW or Mercedes car key and whip out a ****ing food stamp card.... hopefully this takes it away from those who really don’t need food stamps

The one thing that really irritated me as a checker was the people who would come up to me with an energy drink and candy bars and purchase them with their EBT card. However, one thing to realize is there is always going to be people who cheat the system, so we shouldn't punish everyone who uses the same system. I'm kind of indifferent about this because you make a good point, the US shouldn't be pulling funding from people who need it.

have a hard time believing this. ppl always use this similar trope/approach to justify banning food stamps.

I’m not telling you to believe it :poot: It is simply what my eyes witnessed. Believe it if you want

So what? I I have a Mecedes but then lost my job and have to feed my family I WILL be taking food stamps until I can get on my feet again. It's no one's business how someone pays for their food.

What @JusKeepBreathin said reminds me of why u can't judge situations u know nothing about. Things aren't always what they seem

Someone's circumstances could of changed and maybe the car is already paid for?

Maybe someone let them borrow the car. Maybe something simmilar that happened to a friend of mine happened where after an accident the car insurance gave him a temporary car and it was an upgrade from his car and I think it was a BMW too btw

The point is u never know. It's so easy to draw conclusions so quickly about stuff we know nothing about

Of course there's ppl who cheat the system. Some people on food stamps shouldn't be on them. Some people with fancy gadgets and cars may be mismanaging their money and supplementing their habits with food stamps

But there also are some where circumstances may not be what they seem

Honestly, if it's for a good change, I'm ok with it. I used to live in Cali and I didn't qualify for stamps because I had a "decent" job, but I was barely surviving. At times I had to do random legal jobs just to pass by through. Yet, I would see people with brand name hand bags, fancy cars, purchasing cold expensive food, purchasing fast food (McDonalds), or even using it to purchase cigarettes. Meanwhile I was eating sandwiches, popcorn, or Maruchan every day just to survive.

Eighteen

i just find it annoying that the government is cutting stuff like this in an attempt to balance a budget thrown more outta wack because of tax cuts for the rich and an increase on military spending. i'm not saying there aren't some people who abuse food stamps, but it's f*cked up  when you're trimming food stamps because you gave rich people wagons of cash.
