Fashion of His Love Cake

Hi guys! After hearing about how the girl who did the gaga drawings caught the attention of Lady Gaga herself, I thought I would start my own series of Gaga artwork with the craft that I do....cake decorating!

Now, the first project will be finished within 1 - 2 weeks (a special cake take a lot of time, planning, and patience.)

I thought I would take you guys through the whole process step by step on how I'm creating my cakes so today was step 1. Working out dimensions and logistics and drawing a basic sketch of what the cake is supposed to look like (it never turns out EXACTLY like the drawing but it should be close.)

This is probably the biggest "sculpted" cake I have done to date, and I don't have high hopes.

And I will be making this out of real edible cake. Usually decorators use styrofoam cakes to decorate on when the design is intricate and not going to be eaten (ie competitions) but I don't understand the logic of making a "fake cake" when your art is supposed to be edible. :)

This is so incredible! And such a good idea of using your skills in this way! I hope she sees this once it's completed :)

I will be updating this thread after each step is done.

To give you an idea of how my sketches translate to reality, here is an example of how the cake comes out slightly different but the big picture is the same.

I am posting this here so that if anyone has any suggestions to yell out after each step, I would love to hear them! Point out mistakes or irregularities, frank comments are always welcome for my cakes!

I agree with you, why the hell do people make fake cakes, make real ones and then stuff yourself full of it when you are done!

I love the plans, excited to see how this turns out, good luck!

I don't know about other decorators, but when I use styrofoam, it's so that the final cake can be put on display permanently. Something this intricate, I would definitely want to show off to the rest of the world for as long as possible.

Good luck with everything, though. It's gonna look fabulous :)

Actually no. I'm ok with just having a good quality picture. I know people use foam for the time factor, you can keep it out, work on it off and on, keep it forever, but I want to practice my skill. No bride is never gonna want a styrofoam sculpted cake, they always want the real thing (which means more money for me)

It would behoove me to get in the practice already, since this cake isn't for anyone specific in the first place so no intense pressure really

Actually, a lot of brides get fake cakes to cut down on costs. Out of the 6 wedding cakes we had at my work last weekend, 5 of them had dummy layers.

Just make sure you use a ton of support in the cake. Something that thin and tall is going to be very unstable.
