Disney has really lost it. I know they're a huge corporation and that they're in it for the money, but this is ridiculous.

I haven't seen a single one of the live action remakes, nor do I intend to. I'll stick with the animated versions, thank you very much.

They're only doing the Night on Bald Mountain segment, believe it or not that's getting its own movie :air:

Okay, I'm actually here for this. Night on Bald Mountain is epic :tony:

The source material for the story is really problematic - just as they're working to change a lot of 'The Little Mermaid' for the live action film, they would have to change a lot here to make it work - but I would love to see it happen

Poor Matoaka.

They probably aren't going to try to tap the Pamunkey or Mattaponi for actresses either although those are the closest living clans to hers.

God you all are so dramatic and look at this like it’s something awful. Honestly stfu. Now you’re mentioning “real story” but when othr movies don’t get real story treatment you are okay with it. This movie is good for native Americans representation that is literally nonexistent right now in hollywood so you all need to chill.

Can’t wait for this movie. I’m sure it’ll be as good as other live action remakes Disney made.

Beyond live remake exhaustion, I don't know if this one should even be considered at all, at least within the context of the original movie's story. The atrocities committed towards many Indigenous, First Nation, Native American communities all throughout the northern and southern continent of the Americas, primarily by European settlers, cannot and should not be framed as a love story.

Nope. There's no way to save this story, sorry. It's complete bullshit. Pocahontas was 10 years old while John Smith was 27. Are they gonna keep lying and romanticizing sexual abuse, kidnapping and murder?

Exactly. There are many ways to go about creating an original, respectful story in regards to the multitude of Indigenous communities that inspired the Pocahontas film. But the film itself? No thank you.

Well they still earn millions so you’re not doing anything by not watching them hun. Keep being bitter.

I personally think there could be better outlets for Native American representation in media than this particular story. Mataoka's story, not dissimilar to many experiences across many Bands along the east coast at that time, is not pretty.

Like, could they do this well? Possibly. But it's a thin line they're walking on.

But do they really have to show the story as it is or to romanticize it? Maybe they will show her as a strong independent woman who refused to be with him unlike the movie. And even if they kept the animated version story then it would still be a good message for today’s times aka we can all live together.

I think it'd be cool if they wanted to focus more on a singular character's journey, and how it relates to the folk tales of their respective culture. Moana, while not perfect, handled that fairly well from a narrative standpoint. I think that could be a good direction- plus, it could add something different to the lineage of Disney remakes, which I've seen there's been a lack in, regarding TLK and maybe B&TB.

That said, I am also nowhere near a part of the Native American Band that Mataoka belonged to, so in the end I think they deserve a bigger say.

I don't get why people would have a problem with this. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not like the remakes will ruin the originals or anything. I'll watch them all even though I'm not a huge Disney fan. The Alice In Wonderland remake is still my favorite:huntyga: it's probably just childhood nostalgia talking tho.
