Morphine Prince 109,645 Posted July 9, 2019 Share Posted July 9, 2019 There are two sides to this argument: One side says a more moderate candidate is needed to beat Trump The other says a more left leaning candidate is needed to beat Trump Either one could be true but the fact is we tried a moderate in 2016 (Clinton) and she lost. The truth: Democrats need a message that will capture the 70,000 voters who got Trump elected. To be 100% honest, a more leftist view is able to accomplish that if done effectively. Can a moderate do it? Perhaps. But we tried it once. And we lost. I used to think we needed a moderate for better chances but honestly someone like Biden just isn’t going to cut it. Check Europe too see what left is really is and what they represent, a real freedom and liberalism.. The results aren't that surprising. We need a plan. I can't even remember Clinton's plan for America. Trump? Build a wall. Pro-nazi. Anti-feminist. etc. Dems need to be more specific and capture the attention of the people without creating divisive tactics. Trump has creating an atmosphere that is anti race, feminism, LGBTQ, PC, etc. How Dems will navigate that, idk. But that's the biggest struggle for them. Those of us who remember Mondale’s defeat in 1984 and Dukasis’s defeat in 1988, as well as Clinton’s victory in 1992 and 1996, perceive us having to steer sharply to the center, lest we get defeated for being a “socialist” or “tax and spend” liberal. Seeing your presidential candidate only get one state and Washington DC on election night is the kind of experience that continues to haunt you 35 years later. I, quite frankly, want the candidate who has the best chance of winning. I think Biden would had won in 2016, but I think Sanders campaign has succeeded in showing that someone who veers more to the left will not kill us in the general election the way it did in 1972 or 1984; young voters are more liberal than they were back then, especially since the shrinking of the middle class is moving us in to a new Guilded age, where the rich are very rich and the poor are very poor, with few middle class people left. Voters perceive politicians as people who look out for the interests of the Jeffrey Epsteins (someone who is more interested in sexually exploiting young teenage girls than in decreasing income inequality) of the world instead of for the average hard working American; it was this perception which made people vote to Trump, who they saw as someone who cared more for the average American than Clinton. This is front and center when 'most' voters make a decision on whom they support. Sanders isn't thowing as much shade and offering his ideas on leadership. Biden too Warren ...
