Instead of just making new original stories they can also adapt old ones, therefore they can push out 3/4 films a year.

gagzus 15,831
Ok long post but I’m so ticked off and over this topic, and also sick of people tryna use technicalities online to throw subtle racist digs. Let’s just call a spade a spade, people aren’t pissed at reinterpretation their pissed at the fact that modern life is moving forward when it comes to minority representation and they can’t stay blind or comfortable anywhere anymore. Even people on this site are like that and it’s becoming tiring. Their pissed that they can no longer “not see colour” as they always claim and because for once white people cant see themselves in a character they’re annoyed as if Disney hasnt cared for PoC for 70 years until Princess and The Frog. And even then the main PoC wasn’t a PoC for most the film- like even Mulan had heavy white appropriate stereotypes and more and let’s not get started on Pocahontas tryna reinterpret a horrific story from indigineous history. If the problem was too much reinterpretation, then live action Mulan would be under as much scrutiny for taking away two massive elements that made the original good and even altering storyline elements it seems from the teaser too. To the point where the film looks less like a family film and more like an all Asian cast drama movie (which is a great concept imo). Reinterpretation isn’t the culprit, racism is. Period. And as a minority group (LGBT+) we should be standing together in support, all our struggles are interlinked together, there’s only one of us here and we’re not separate. We pissed off because Disney uses the Little Mermaid to make it political when it shouldn't be. If Disney, changed all their live action movie, it wouldn't be a problem, but they never did that. They never change the color of the skin or the ethnicity of their princesses in the past. They do it not for no reason, maybe to be cool (or maybe because of Beyonce !). That's not fair, ppl like me waited for decades to see Ariel in real life, to have the chance to see an actual movie with a mermaid under the sea, because it dooesn't exist. Yes, there are plenty of Cinderella, Snow White and Alice, but there is only one Ariel (because her name and her red head belong to Disney) and there will have no second movie about Ariel, so ppl like me will certainly die before they make another one again. That is the sad thing in that story.

There are TONS of movie adaptations of the little mermaid with white actresses. Go watch one of them.
