His songs are also very bare, empty and shallow. There is nothing to the songs themselves and impressive vocals can't mask, that his songs simply lack artistry, forever. This is just a really bad cover though I think. I remember hearing it on the radio and wasn't impressed. His voice is pretty good on other tracks though!
