:lmao:   y'all forgot that the Disney version took place in Caribbean. Not Denmark like Hans's original version was. How else you gonna explain those Carribean style castle, and patois speaking crab that is Sebastian?!?! Hence, Halle is appropriate for the casting than the iconic but white washed red headed version we have on the cartoons. I expect the prince and Triton to be POC too. This is Disney making correction of the white washing they did and got the pass since it was different times back then.

There’s no such thing as Carribean castles. I’m Puerto Rican lol. And she’s black, not Caribbean.

Olay so this thread is toxic. I’m just going to try and refrain from coming here. If not, The WP I’ll get will be iconic. Y’all act like the original version is going away. Lord... Cam someone make a new Gaga fan site with actual Gaga fans that try to follow her message in the slightest attempt.

May I Read You? 😎

I... find this thread so immature.

Insulting people with "racist" or "sjw" at the whim of a minor disagreement, really?

It doesn't matter the original stories or the lack of race in any TLM interpretations, at the end of the day. These are movies; they're visual media. How people respond to them, remember them, and hence place emotional attachment to them is based heavily on sensory info, which is also why Emma Watson's bad singing was disappointing. The fact is Disney hopes to sell this movie on nostalgia. And that nostalgia is highly disrupted by accompanying visuals that are sooo different from the animated Ariel we all know. That's kinda obvious, guys, I mean why is this such a controversial thing to say?

Halle has a magical voice. I'm more worried about her mermaid tail being realistic, and how on earth they're gonna design Flounder.

You lost ANY AND ALL points when you tried to compare Ariel (A FAIRYTALE CHARACTER) to a white Woman playing Oprah in a BIOPIC! Lmfao the racism and ignorance Jumped TF out and you’re going to take the L for it. And it won’t be let down. Many of you are showing your ass in this post and it’s very telling. Save the BUT MY CHILDHOOD! And IM NOT WHITE! Because anti-blackness spreads across MANY other races and you are showing your racism whether you want to admit or not. PAULINA SHOULD BE ASHAMED

It's not my ****ing problem that you took that example literally and ignored the analogy behind the context. I've never even watched the movie but that character is universally known for specific characteristics such as her red hair. Would you be okay if Lindsay Lohan played the princess in a live-action of the Princess and the Frog? Or are you just gonna say that 'oh but the character in the main movie is black and so should the actress be in the remake," because that's pretty accurate in here.

But if this will make you happy, then I'm kinda excited to see how Halle is going to look like playing that character and how they'll creatively manage to amaze us with this.

Have y'all calmed your ass now?

Black Cinderella wasn’t by Disney though.

But why does that matter?!

It doesn't and neither does that fact the this ONE time, your precious magical fish person is a few shades darker than the cartoon you are familiar with.

I can't with y'all anymore; your tears aren't stopping the fact that the Ariel has beautiful brown skin

Stay mad. :bye:

Felonies? Loves it.

Well...you’re the one playing the “I’m not white” race card...

This isn’t even about the book any longer. Ariel does not commit suicide in the original Disney movie.

The director went thru auditions and chose the actress that best represented his artistic vision.

So much for “respect the artist”

You brought up “by the book” to further give the narrative that a Black Woman should not have this role and should be recast. You can preface your statement with “I don’t have a problem” but racists aren’t gonna care and further protest this casting by you mentioning book canon, which Disney abandoned already.

How will I play the ‘im Not white race card’ when I’m not white in the first place? They obviously didn’t include the suicide cause it was made for a kids movie. Are you unable to comprehend that? The book and the animation depict Ariel as a white woman and that’s why they expect a white woman. Read through my entire replies and show me where I have a problem with them casting a black woman.

Does it matter? Damage is done

You could be a white man pretending to be a black woman

without a photo I have no reason to believe what you say about race issues

Holding you accountable for your words is what I’ll do no matter how many ad hominem attacks you’d put against me as a some sicko

What you say helps future racists gain a foothold in how creative want to tell a story. She is a mermaid and they can be of any skin color. Not one of we should go strictly by the book because Disney never does that.

River

At the end it's a story and if we can have thousands of batmans and jokers at the same time, we can have 2 versions of Ariel.

The real problem is how they messed up Scar and removed his black mane.

I could play the moderator, I can ban you, die sis.
