It doesn't matter the original stories or the lack of race in any TLM interpretations, at the end of the day. These are movies; they're visual media. How people respond to them, remember them, and hence place emotional attachment to them is based heavily on sensory info, which is also why Emma Watson's bad singing was disappointing. The fact is Disney hopes to sell this movie on nostalgia. And that nostalgia is highly disrupted by accompanying visuals that are sooo different from the animated Ariel we all know. That's kinda obvious, guys, I mean why is this such a controversial thing to say? Halle has a magical voice.
