Idk why y'all are acting as if this is a remake of the Anderson story. This is a reimagining of the DISNEY animated film. Come up with something new other than "it was in the book!!!". We're not going by the "book".

Just pull the race card lmao Black twitter would've been on a roll if they casted a white person for a black character. It's literally the same situation. freebit 6,117
She has a more ethereal look than Zendaya, who I felt was too glam & modern looking to play a mermaid (even if a Disney one), plus she's got a beautiful voice. Great choice IMO.

Lol gentetics rules ! xD it's simple. ariel's dead mother will be black and her father will be white. it's not really that hard of a concept to grasp. also this is a fairytale so it's not really needed for there to be GENETICS! they didnt care in the Brandy version of cinderella

geopang 4,831
Isn’t Ariel a white ginger girl? This is what happens when SJW mentality takes over Hollywood. They’ll cast any person of color just for the sake of pleasing people and appearing “diverse”.

Andersen described her as white. Re-read the original story !

Lol gentetics rules ! xD The Disney Broadway musical actually cast Norm Lewis as King Triton and never discussed the fact that Ariel was white and her father was black. Norm Lewis was awsome in that role. Can I have Norm Lewis as King Triton in this....
