I think he's talking about labels signing kpop groups like BLACKPINK, Monsta X, and NCT 127 after the success that BTS had in America, not that they are inspiring anybody.

Oh ok thank you

Maybe he mean't they're inspiring the musical landscape of K-Pop? Sorry, i'm not familiar with K-Pop but I feel like weren't boybands and girl gourps huge in the far east since late 2000s? I don't feel much impact or changes in the US pop scene that feels like it was a BTS influence.

Is BTS the first kpop group to make it this big in America?

Look into 2NE1

Nah 2NE1 is the Gaga of Kpop. Unlike BP, 2ne1 receives numerous ‘Daesang’ aka the korean Grammys.

Nice of them to say this about Gaga but I wholeheartedly disagree on the BTS part. What artists did they exactly inspire? If anything, KPop is inspired by American/British pop of the 2000s.

Omg I can’t at some of y’all being slow. They did not say BTS inspired any bands in America. They said after the rise of BTS, American labels are looking to sign k pop groups, i.e., they’re looking for their own BTS. Just like how every label tried to have their own Gaga back then.

Does it matter? Damage is done

Except the difference is (to me at least) Gaga brought a new genre to pop and made electronic dance music the in-thing after 2008-2009. BTS much like a lot of other K-Pop groups I’ve heard however all have songs and beats that sound like they’re from 2013/2014 US pop charts.

Not that that’s a bad thing, but it’s a disservice to Gaga as a WOMAN in music to compare the sheer impact she’s had (even today people follow a lot of her trends years later) to a mainstream boy band.

I mean, I don't think BTS will be around in 10 years but I agree they're having some impact. But even DJ Snake had some impact back in 2014 when suddenly all songs sounded like Lean On/Turn Down For What...

Impact comes and goes but Gaga changed the industry with The Fame, and even Joanne had some "copycats" (or influenced artists). That is not comparable. BTS selling albums like hot cakes doesn't mean much.

Pretty sad thing since k-pop has always been famous for the bad treatment reserved to performers since really young age and it's now being exported around the world. Yikes

I'm not really into BTS and KPOP but if this means more electronic dance pop music then I'm down

I think so. Many groups tried before and did a good job, but didn't reach this level of success if my memory doesn't fail :saladga:
