Freud 5,669
The simplicity yet the effects of the sets and outfits remind me strongly of Bad Romance. This Video is one of the best. No unnecessary CGI, amazing looks, messages and frames.

There is no rule that music videos for soundtracks have to be clip montages. That is just the norm. Since when do we value people who follow norms? A few beautifully directed music videos for the ASIB singles would have been great.

Most women are not as alternative as the ones she shows in this video so it's hardly a video for everyone. Besides, the main performer doesn't count in these kind of videos, it's everyone else they choose to feature. And whenever a video of this type is made, it always focuses on the rarest looks, which, although that's all well and good, there's no sense of "normality" to balance it all out. And when I say normality, I don't mean perfection, I mean natural/standard/plain/simple, whatever you want to call it. I'm not asking for a VS fashion show, I'm asking for a video that actually celebrates what the average woman looks like and the average woman is not 6 feet tall, tanned, blonde and skinny...but she's certainly not 4 feet, tattooed, pierced and overnight either. I think I've yet to see a video like this that actually celebrates women who look remotely like me. It's all very well to showcase the types of women in society who are rare, marginalised and rarely seen or celebrated but there's nothing wrong with putting in a more realistic take on what the average and above average woman looks like too, to truly give it something for everyone. It's kinda like how there's all these body positive fashion campaigns now that claim to show "real, natural, healthy women" and yet you'll never see a skinny, flat-chested woman in these campaigns, even if that's her natural shape and weight because apparently showing someone skinny sends the wrong message. So, the message is, effectively, that skinny women aren't normal or acceptable, which is just as tyrannical as forcing women to adapt to a slim ideal. Apparently, when the tables are turned, it's acceptable. Inclusivity means everyone, not just the alternative crowd. I’m sorry, but I guess you’re overanalyzing and dramatizing things. Marginalized women are featured in the video because they are the ones being judged or excluded, not the “conforming” ones - they are usually “celebrated” anyways. Plus of course director wants to go with sharp scenes, it is obvious from the art direction of video. This is not a social ad to have the responsibility to cater every woman, it is just a music video to a rebel pop song. Chill.

This video did primarily represent alternative women. I don’t see anything wrong with that, since alternative omen are represented the least. I i do believe we need to back off on pushing “obesity is beautiful, too”. No one is naturally obese. It’s a health risk and should not be seen as positive. Healthy lifestyles that support moderation should be seen as beautiful. Moderation being the average body- nothing super skinny, nothing obese. Society has made a push to say Overly skinny is unacceptable. Obesity should be met the same way.
