All of those people have been over for a while tho

If they were truly over, the labels wouldn't even allow them to release a body of work that won't bring any money, let alone book concert tours worldwide. :hor:

Those millions were not "wasted" as the album has had a #1 debut. It's her 14th studio album, almost 4 decades into her career, it obviously can't perform as good as her previous ones. And we're also in the streaming era, and we know how it works, especially when it comes to older artists. :smh:

Wasted is a very good way to describe it. The album will be lucky to move 300k units ww and that won’t even cover the reported $5M she spent on her billboard performance alone. Nobody will look at that and say “money well spent.”  :air:

It’s a mixture of things actually. People either love it or hate it. With Madame X it’s legitimately one or the other.

As a longtime Madonna fan, I tried listening to it. It did nothing for me. There were maybe one or two songs that I liked. The rest just didn’t cut it for me.

Besides the point...it’s a digital era with music. People aren’t spending as much money on albums anymore now with all the early leaks and people pirating albums. Everyone has been guilty of it to some degree.

What I will say—and it’s something I’ve always admired about Madonna—she has 35+ year legacy and for her she doesn’t need charts. She’s releasing content that makes her happy and pleasing the fans. Everything else is irrelevant because she will still sell-out stadiums and arenas.

People act like these charts mean anything to her at this point. Ya’ll have to also remember that this is her what, 14th album? You can’t expect this blow minds away and snag the gold like her past masterpieces such as Ray of Light or True Blue or Confessions.

I didn't say that, I was just said "we were" since I didn't see a lot of people making fun of the drop. I saw more people happy it was still in the top 10.

Who cares? Why is this a scandal, she is nearly 40 years into this game, she is 60 years old, and it's AMAZING and wonderful that her incredible new album was able to debut at #1! Thats fantastic! But what is so much more important and fantastic, is that it's one of her best albums of her career. Brilliant production and concepts, gorgeous melodies, some of the best music video's she's ever made, and songs that you want to hear again and again. She is peerless. You can look to Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson, but they started years after M, are a decade younger, and are selling WAAAAAY less than Madonna, with albums that don't even have a concept, and music videos? Why even mention them. You could say Kiley Minogue, even though she is basically a non entity in the USA but is having another renassaince in the UK, but she has played it as safe as possible in every way her entire career, she isn't trying to change the world, just make some pop songs. Even the 10's girls, while outselling her, are far less interesting/challenging/inspiring in what they are putting out. This drop doesn't matter, the art matters, and Madonna is forever the Queen of Pop.

Heres my gripe with this argument, to me, it doesn't matter that its her 14th album. She can still blow minds, she can still make a masterpiece, and considering the fact that she is Madonna she can still turn heads and show people shes not done. Shes just yet to make something this decade that truly transcends all this talk about how far into her career she is. Shes every bit capable of making another Ray of Light level album at her stature, she just hasn't. Madame X is the closest in over a decade that shes come to truly going balls to the wall and making something bonkers but it doesnt commit, it still kind of wants to be a streaming centric album. Imo, for her to make something creatively fruitful, she has to just throw streaming out the window because if anyone in her team hasnt come to terms with it yet streaming just is not her bag, just f*ck it and make something wild that says something about what she feels. You know? Streaming will come if the album is what it should be. None of this run of the mill Medellin latin trap pandering. Commit to your weird or don't. Thats why this one and Rebel Heart both fell in the middle for me (but neither were nearly as bad as MDNA, truly her rock bottom imo).

MDNA wasn’t terrible for me and I wouldn’t say it was hitting rock bottom. The drama between her and Gaga at that time ruined it for me because of the Express Yourself/Born This Way/She’s Not Me medley during the tour itself (EY and BTW mashup is a beautiful concept ruined by the latter song).

If any album was a “rock bottom” moment, it would be Hard Candy. No one ever really brings up that album...

I do agree that I was hoping for something along the lines of Ray of Light or Confessions. Confessions was literally my go to album for a good part of my college years.

To be expected. This is a tough summer to release. It's a great album and it's going to be a fully fleshed out concept. At least Madonna fans got a real album not a recycled vegas show at ridiculous prices. Not many musicians have that kind of commitment these days and some don't even release at all :applause::heart:

Why are u even on here

I just felt that lyrically Hard Candy was above what she was serving for most of MDNA. I, admittedly, was never a fan of the Timbaland reign of the late 00s (sans Nelly Furtados Loose which was gold imo) so im right there with everyone in regards to the production, but there were tracks on there like Miles Away or fun cuts like Give It 2 Me/Heartbeat that still managed to trump some of the dumbest material of her career that was on MDNA (Superstar, B Day Song, Turn Up the Radio, etc). Masterpiece, that seems to be a fan favorite, was one of the most tepid ballads of her career and imo had no business on the album as it served no purpose and did not match it sonically one bit. The album already had Falling Free which should have been the sole moment of clarity and was lovely despite coming across as a washed Ray of Light reject. Love Spent was dope and there may be like one other song I can give some credit to. But idk, even with Hard Candys faults it still felt a step above MDNA in terms of quality and just overall maturity.

A lot of female artist have trouble charting nowadays

Christina Aguilera: Liberation: 6 - 98 - OUT
Mariah Carey: Caution: 5 - 55 - 163 - OUT
Avril Lavigne: Head Above Water: 13 - 113 - OUT
Carly Rae Jepsen: 18 - 182 - OUT
Fergie: Double Dutchess: 19 - 131 - OUT

It's not really that they're female, it's more like the GP just isn't interested, I mean almost all of these girls are from a different generation and try to be part of the new, it's just how music works as sad as it is :/

It was an achievement she even charted let alone having a #1 over 60 so i guess she's alright. As a stan i have 0 expectations from her chart-wise since i like the music. :flower: People who hate her can laugh all they want.
