I feel for her, this does seem like quite a betrayal especially when she's been so open about wanting to buy and control her masters herself.

Wow that super sucks :( she was 15 what were the adults in her life that were supposed to be looking after her thinking? I guess a big break u cant see that far ahead. So like can she still perform her old stuff on tour and all that if she wants to?

This is so wrong. I hope she can buy her content back one day.

She can perform them because he owns the recordings, not the songs itself. If she wants to use any of the original recordings live (like pre-recorded vocals or instruments) she has to get his permission AND pay him. If she recreates the song from scratch she's free to do it.

An example of that is Jojo. She doesn't own the masters of her old stuff so she completely rerecorded her albums so she could put them on streaming services.

It's clear her label doesn't care for money, they just wanted to hurt her. If they cared just about the money they would've sold it to her or literally anyone else, but instead they sold it to her worst enemy out of all people.

On top of that, before she left they were trying to convince her to renew her contract and promised to give her one album back for each album she releases, but what they were really trying to do is get her to renew it then sell the label and that way scoot would not only own her music but also her. I'm disgusted.

Well yes, this is very sad and bad, and her statement is very cute and inspiring, but you signed a deal because you wanted to be big. Yes, you were 15 years old, but it was either signing the contract or probably never get to where you are now. Probably every major popstar had to give up something in a contract so they could become major popstars. They gave you a chance of being great, and they invested in you to be great, in exchange of getting the return of that investment.

What everyone tries to do, and what Taylor did, is to grow bigger and bigger, and gain enough power to not be affected by this. Nowadays, Scott could completely erase her discography, and she would still be able to rise the moment after, because she's now that powerful and impactful. She did her job right, and she was able to grow and get a better deal. Lots of artists are not able to.

Also, it doesn't sound like the selling was illegal or particularly treacherous.mp3 (:huntyga:). Yeah, that Scott guy is her enemy, but they sold what they could sell and nothing more.

How did this happen though? I thought her dad was a big executive at that label or something  also did her parents not read that contract?

I can’t say I’m surprised. Scooter always gave me real yucky vibes...

Even if Taylor isn’t my favorite artist I still respect her and believe she’s one of the real ones.

Does Gaga owns her masters? This means that Taylor can't profit for her music? Os that he can't stop her from sing her songs?

is this true:poot:

Does this mean that Taylor would have to re-record and essentially redo all of her songs? I don't get this.

So what does that actually mean? Like, what changes for Taylor?

Scooter can basically do whatever he wants with taylor’s music from her first album all the way up to reputation.

He can use it, sell it, rebrand it, promote it etc and basically earn stuff for something he did not create...
