Most/all artists lose rights to their own master records (Mariah Carey for many years, until very recently she wrestled back control over her masters), others went bankrupt (TLC). Record labels are becoming more irrelevant and will continue to bully, intimidate and squeeze every single dime off their artists. The only silver line for Taylor is she wrote all those songs. Even when u are eventually (hopefully) successful, the label does NOT have to let go of anything and will price it as they wish when they do. Original recordings are an asset that can give the company returns for the rest of time. Even if TS can procure enough money, which may never happen, they can change the price as well, can't they? They more successful the artist, the more valuable/more expensive the masters will become . The less successful the artist, the less likely they may be able to buy them back. Her singles absolutely tumbled down the charts, so she decided to take some notes from her old playbook to add an ounce of relevancy. I always think Swift was overreacting back the time. OT: I can understand why Taylor is upset but that's how the music indusrty works. From my perspective, her former label did invested a lot on her past releases and her fans shouldn't act like she made it all by herself though. I mean, I'm pitiful for Taylor, but, there's nothing illegal for Borchetta to sell it to Scooter Braun?
