2011 VMAS: Why didn’t Gaga perform Judas or TEOG?

While I have enjoyed Gaga’s You and I Performance as Joe Calderone at the 2011 VMA’s, I have always wondered something about it.

Why didn’t Gaga perform Judas or The Edge Of Glory that night? Wouldn’t you think she would since they are the 2nd (Judas) and 3rd (TEOG) singles from the album after Born This Way?

Did she perform it because the video had just came out around that time and she wanted to bring it to life more or?

Anyone else ever wonder about this? And/ or wish she had performed Judas or TEOG that night at the 2011 VMAS?

Discuss!

Why would she perform 2nd or 3rd singles when You And I was 4th? :oprah: She needed to promote it

That was a crazy night with her opening the VMAs as Jo Calderone. Welp...I believe it was mainly because at the time she was promoting Yoü & I as the 4th single off the album. Judas had minimal support during the Spring because of the religious metaphors and the backlash she got for it. The Edge of Glory had already peaked and fell off by this point. That’s all I got really. There was no point performing either of those if people had moved on already, her included. It wouldn’t have mattered because 2011 was Adele’s year with the “21” album and Katy was dominating the charts with the singles off of “Teenage Dream.”

I was thinking because they were the biggest singles behind BTW so since they were so popular that she would have.

But I can understand why she did since You and I didn’t get much buzz or promo at the time.

It was theatrics to the next level and I still to this day, think it is brilliant.

Who would ever thought that she would come to the show as a man? From the opening monologue to the performance to the audiences reactions, it was pure gold!

A legendary performance no one could pull off except for Gaga :applause:

It was the single that was being promoted at the time, and probably just started gaining traction on the radio. I think it was shortly after this performance that it peaked at #6 in the US, right? Timing and prioritizing.

Anyway, I'm glad she did, even if the promos kind of sideswept us. Jo, as a character embodiment, was such an interesting choice, and probably one of the coolest things she has done so far.

3 points in and ready for more

I think people thought she may perform Government Hooker because that was featured in the advertising?

You and I was the current single.

TEOG and Judas had already been promoted and peaked months before.
