I'm mexican and honestly opening the borders just like that would KILL the USA, it's just not realistic and not a good idea, if I was American I would also not agree with that

Honestly, Illegal immigration makes it harder to implement any other reform. The stronger our borders the better social welfare policies we can implement. Otherwise everything we do is just incentivizing more illegal immigration which unduly burdens the new programs and makes them harder to sustain.

That's not really how welfare policies work. In Sweden, just because you cross the border into Sweden does not mean you have access to any of the welfare benefits. When it comes to healthcare you have to be registered to access it. I.e. an immigrant coming in to Sweden has to register with State authorities to get a social security number to access healthcare. If you are an illegal immigrant (undocumented) you cannot access the free healthcare system.

I would assume the US would base a universal healthcare system on this logic.

Emergency healthcare is another thing. Everyone has the right to emergency care if your life is in danger. This is universal. For example, if I get sick outside of Europe should I require emergency care I will get it regardless if I have insurance or not. If I require medical treatment based on a condition that is not emergency care.

In Europe you can have a medical insurance card from your country that covers you when you travel to other countries in Europe. Read about European Health Insurance Card

"A valid EHIC gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in another European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland.

The EHIC covers treatment that is medically necessary until your planned return home. Treatment should be provided on the same basis as it would to a resident of that country, either at a reduced cost or, in many cases, free of charge."

Since the US has a federal system it could work on the same basis for States instead of countries.

But again, EHIC is based on the fact that you are a legal resident of the country (for example Sweden), a national, or eligible under other criteria. An illegal immigrant is not eligible.

Yeah...immigration enforcement would go a long way here...but nooooo.   That's racist...

Simply stream line the path to citizenship,  the need for much of anything else will be reduced...

Thank you...I know a few Mexican americans...Chicano they prefer...

Those families all went thu the immigration process and are proud of their heritage...

What makes the current wave of immigrants more special than them?
