Secondly, this is exactly the reason why you should take it with a grain of salt. It's common that presidential candidates have a more radical message during the primaries to convince the more radical primary voters, and have a softer message afterwards. You should look at the proposals just before the actual presidential elections to decide who to vote for, their proposals now aren't really representative. Thirdly, the US is a democracy. The president has powers, but not a lot without the Senate and the House. Conservative democratic senators from places like West-Virginia are crucial in getting legislation through. Moderate democrats will never vote something like this through, so you don't really have to worry. And finally, you should apply the same logic to Trump that you apply to the Democrats: Trump is THE most radical president that the US has had in modern history. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, anyone on the Democratic side you can imagine is MUCH more centrist and moderate than Trump. No one even talks about how Trump won WI, MI, and PA. And it's so simple for Dems to win those States back. People act like Trump won in a landslide. He won by 70k votes that decided the electoral college. It's not rocketscience. Dems have all the chances they can get. Not all independents are single-issue voters concerned with immigration matters. Given that, I'm pretty confident independents would be more concerned about the rammifications of voting for a person setting us on the track we currently are on what will be one of the biggest embarrassments I think this country has ever experienced. I get that it can be extreme when making comparisons, but keep in mind it is the objective of the right to think that any liberal perspective is considered as far left as possible. Do not fall for such tactics and attempt to make the left look extreme. Checks and balances exist for a reason. There will be resistance to anything otherwise extreme in Congress, let alone anything proposed by the left at this point anyway. I'd chill on this. The stronger our borders the better social welfare policies we can implement. Otherwise everything we do is just incentivizing more illegal immigration which unduly burdens the new programs and makes them harder to sustain.
