So we're against free speech now.

More like "take your free speech somewhere else where it's relevant", I'd say :vegas: Which, I agree, seems slightly in violation of the free speech ideology but then that ideology was always vague and filled with paradoxes to begin with, I guess :messga:

Free speech is for the public. Don't talk about that guy in my house.

And when I say public, I mean government space.

Edit: it's not like it was a political forum. It's a knitting forum. Such a light topic can't survive the weight of a Trump conversation. I agree.

Free speech should have limitations in online areas if we're to keep the peace. We already do not have freedom of speech on GGD when it comes to sexualized and other topics.

My issue with blatant Trump supporters on this website is that the few members here I've seen that go goo goo for TrumpTrump have also said things against women's rights, against black people, and against Mexicans. I even vaguely remember seeing our most outspoken Trumpster who shall not be named degrade women for seeking abortions. But the context in which they release this feces is so in-line with how Trump and far-right politicians spew hate that it sounds like a political opinion instead of sexism, racism, or white supremacy. Yet most of them live in other countries where race superiority and male superiority are extremely common, and their opinion on U.S. politics is only coming from the hate they've learned, not on actual U.S. politics.

Point is, there is a big difference between sharing conservative VALUES and sharing Trump-Era, far-right conservative hate messages of the last four years. Republicans have always counted on their voters being religious and racist. But Trump blatantly condones hate, discrimination, violence, and racism in a way that no political party in America ever has before. So agreeing with Trump is not a free speech issue. It's a hate speech issue.

I am not too sure or don't remember much. He might have been.

We'll the Admin is Russian, and in Russia a lot of people support Trump so it's not surprising the admin is a Trump supporter.

This is exactly the distinction Ravelry is trying to make, thank you!! These are some of the points they make in the new policy announcement:

-You can still participate if you do in fact support the administration, you just can’t talk about it here.

-We are not endorsing the Democrats nor banning Republicans.

-We are definitely not banning conservative politics. Hate groups and intolerance are different from other types of political positions.

And believe me, there were a lot of meltdowns over "free speech!!!!" in the thread there about all this but as has been pointed out both here and there, Ravelry is a private organization/business and they can have whatever rules of conduct they like.

Thank you so much for validating my post. Any time I have provided an argument against a Trump supporter or "free speech advocate" and get a notification that someone responded, I get anxious that I'm about to be presented with a seething, aggressive critique of my post. I'm so happy it was you and not some others lol

I'm not sure about this, but for anyone who is unaware, Admin does not live in the states and therefore couldn't vote anyways.

P.S. It feels really weird to call him Admin all the time. He's Kirill and he seems like a lovely guy.

Trump supporters exist outside the US. They don't have to be American or live in the states.
