Catholic board ‘deeply sorry’ after quote attributed to Hitler

A Catholic elementary school has removed a quote attributed to Hitler that was part of a Grade 8 graduation picture display — after it hung in the gym for nearly two days.

Staff at Holy Rosary Catholic School were made aware of the quote — “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. (Adolf Hitler)” — after basketball players, who use the gym for evening games, complained.

“We are deeply sorry that this has happened,” said Toronto Catholic District School Board spokesperson Shazia Vlahos on Friday.

She said staff at the school, located near Bathurst St. and St. Clair Ave. W., spoke with the student who is “deeply apologetic,” adding, “We believe the student made an honest mistake.”

The boy had searched online for an inspirational quote and didn’t know who Hitler was, the board spokesperson said.

...

And, he had no idea he was looking at a meme of a quote misattributed to Hitler.

I don't know what's worse, a student who doesn't know who Adolf Hitler is :saladga: or taking two days to realise the mistake :saladga:

It upsets me a lot that they aren't teaching kids World History or how to properly use the internet to search for information.

i used to run a tumblr account that made fake images like this (and also the reverse) but i had to close it after i was contacted by a popstar's team for attributing a hitler quote to them :laughga:

US of A, where world history does not exist.

Seems like an honest mistake & they acknowledged, apologized & fixed the issue, I’m more upset over the catholic school not teaching who Hitler is & most likely not teaching history with correct information.

Why would that be a problem? Just because people have done atrocities doesn't mean they didn't say something smart once in their lives...

Yes, because Joanne d'Arc once said:

" 99 of them won’t believe in you, but all you need is one"

In that case, it must have been a student from the USA that just got transferred :huntyga:
