Marilyn MonHoe 11,011 Posted June 21, 2019 Share Posted June 21, 2019 Declaring "there has to be consequences" to coming to the U.S. illegally, the nation's top immigration enforcement official said in an interview Friday that the “rule of law” was at stake and "political will" needed, as his agency planned to arrest more than 2,000 undocumented immigrant family members. But Morgan tells ABC the “integrity” of the system was in question. The agency planned to target more than 2,040 family members who had already received deportation orders but were still living inside the United States. CNN and The Washington Post reported that the focus of the raids would be in 10 cities and take place Sunday. “This is not about fear,” Morgan said. “No one is instilling fear in anyone. This is about the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the system.” Morgan said the goal was to deter more people from coming illegally to the United States. “Right now, the greatest pull factors for families to come here is they know that once they arrive in the U.S., they remain here untouched. We have to change that,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Mark Morgan told ABC News Live. I'm all for Daca and legitimate asylum-seekers, but if you are convicted of a crime and the court orders your deportation, it must be done. The immigration debate in the U.S has been banalized so much by both parties to the point it's devoid of any reason right now. Progressives oppose deportation no matter what the circumstances are, and republicans always support deportation. How about a reasonable middle ground? Try to find a solution for DACA children and legitimate asylum-seekers while deporting criminals without screaming "bad deportation" whenever the word is used. I think the severity of criminal activity should weigh too.. Givin a chance, many immigrants would comply with citizenship rules... A speeding ticket or some such really shouldn't cause deportation. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Well unfortunately, for both citizens and non-citizens, not paying court-ordered penalties is a crime and results in an arrest. I've seen many cases of illegal aliens not paying tickets which would result in an arrest warrant being issued. Once they're arrested, it's over. It's because countries aren't supposed to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars incarcerating people that aren't citizens of the country. That's why arrested immigrants (whether legal or not legal) end up being deported in most cases. It's the standard in most countries, including in Europe. Something like a quarter of all immigrants (adults) were either turned away at the border or caught and deported. Truthfully there is no good answer to this issue. You obviously can't just lock people up or kick them out for being foreigners but open borders is a disaster in practice. The middle ground imo would be to extend citizenship to all of them, legal or otherwise. "Normal" immigrants/asylum seekers are allowed to join our society with no issues. Former criminals turned citizens are put on a review list and checked up on now and then. Like a temporary probation period or something. Ones that commit crimes here are held accountable as citizens, given their rights, a fair trial, and any sentence deemed fit for the crime they commit. There's a few holes there and I'll be honest, I don't fully understand our immigration system but I literally don't see the issue in allowing people to move here or extending an offer of citizenship to those that are already here and may have been for years. Anyone who says immigrants are dangerous obviously has yet to meet another American. @MasonG, you're an expert or something, yes? Tell me what the problem here is please. If he is no longer president by 2020 then the Southern District of New York will indict him on campaign finance charges and send his orange a$$ to jail.
