Biden To Rich Donors: “Nothing Will Fundamentally Change”

Former Vice President Joe Biden told affluent donors Tuesday that he wanted their support and -- perhaps unlike some other Democratic presidential candidates -- wouldn’t be making them political targets because of their wealth.

“Remember, I got in trouble with some of the people on my team, on the Democratic side, because I said, you know, what I’ve found is rich people are just as patriotic as poor people. Not a joke. I mean, we may not want to demonize anybody who’s made money,” Biden told about 100 well-dressed donors at the Carlyle Hotel on New York’s Upper East Side, where the hors d’oeuvres included lobster, chicken satay and crudites.

“Truth of the matter is, you all know, you all know in your gut what has to be done,” Biden said. “We can disagree in the margins. But the truth of the matter is, it’s all within our wheelhouse and nobody has to be punished. No one’s standard of living would change. Nothing would fundamentally change,” he said.

Nothing would fundamentally change huh? At this point he is a moderate Republican, not a democrat.

Look at this @Morphine Prince @OG Gaga Stan

At a time when people are struggling to find work and can't feed their kids because they're being paid starvation wages largely because of these wealthy capitalists, this man decides that nothing needs to fundamentally change and that coddling wealthy donors is the best use of his time.

Imagine voting for this Republican. :messga:

Well at least another 4 years of Trump will guarantee AOC getting elected as the first woman president in 2024

And there are some people that would rather blame the “Far Left” instead of the politician :toofunny:

Anyone voting for Biden in the primaries is not a progressive.

He is a Republican Lite. Obama chose him as VP probably to win over some moderates. That's it.

Is he wrong in what he said?

There's no reason to "demonize" rich people. Y'all stanning somebody who's worth 300M$ here. Does it make her less patriotic than any of you?

What we need to do, is to make sure they pay their fair share of taxes. And many of them are in support of that.

There are many rich people who are actually helping tremendously like Elon Musk for example who is pushing aggressively for more advanced technology to support clean air initiatives like electronic cars.

Isn't that the "progressive" cause? Or does "progressive" nowadays mean repeating some cheap talking points that demonize rich people wherever they stand on the issues?

If you have to question whether what he said was wrong or not then you’re lost and uninformed.

Progressives aren’t demonizing all rich people, they are pointing out a system which favors the wealthy and disenfranchises the poor. It doesn’t matter what Elon Musk or other people like him do, real change will only come from politicians who have regular people in mind and not their rich donors.

Why don’t you go learn whether public busing is related to segregation or not then come back to me :ladyhaha:

He is much worse imo.

With Hillary at least we knew there was room for compromise and she promised to be more progressive.

Biden is LITERALLY telling us he will be a Republican.

That is a policy issue. I was just asking what is it that Biden said that is wrong?

He said nobody's standard of living would change. And that is true. Even if you increase tax rates to 50-60% on rich people, their standard of living wouldn't change, which is EXACTLY what Obama said back in the day, that by taxing rich people more fairly, they aren't being punished, and they won't even notice a change in their living standard.

What would be wrong, is that if Joe Biden said that democrats are actually trying to punish rich people and lower their living standard, because that's the scare-tactics that republicans are using in trying to make it sound so.

You're misinterpreting his quote. He's saying that by raising taxes to 50-60%, the rich peoples standard of living won't change. They wouldnt notice they be losing a larger chunk of their income to taxes...

And this is why he can't be the nominee or the left is gonna get all disillusioned. We need someone who's actually gonna do something about this country and make structural change.
