I actually feel like it can also be Gaga that's partially to blame. Sometimes, she doesn't give it her all during dancing (which is understandable cause she takes pride in delivering top-notch vocals). And the very same choreography can look less energetic if the lead singer doesn't emulate the energy of her dancers. For example, Applause seemed flawless at the MTV VMAs and in the music video, but when it comes to other live performances, Gaga rarely exudes the same energy as in the video and at the VMAs.
