Biden invokes segregationist Senators

Joseph R. Biden Jr., defending himself on Tuesday night against suggestions that he is too “old fashioned” for today’s Democratic Party, invoked two Southern segregationist senators by name as he fondly recalled the “civility” of the Senate in the 1970s and 1980s.

“I know the new New Left tells me that I’m — this is old-fashioned,” he said. “Well guess what? If we can’t reach a consensus in our system, what happens? It encourages and demands the abuse of power by a president.”

He's clearly saying that even though those senators were absolute trash, and he didn't agree with them at all, they actually got stuff done w/ them instead of today where even bipartisan legislation is shot down by McConnell because he doesn't want the Dems to have anything.

As I said, primaries is your chance to get your candidate to win. So if you think Biden will lose to Trump. Pick someone else in the primaries. But if he becomes the nominee, don't divide the democratic party. Any of these candidates is still better than Trump.

This is the 20th or so time he's invoked this exact same rhetoric when talking about how he got along with segregationists in the past: We didn't agree on everything, but we'd work together and hang out and pal around when we weren't on the clock. He's literally called numerous white supremacists that he used to work with "good friends." Spend five minutes googling any of this.

We've just started a political primary, the express purpose of which is to criticize politicians we disagree with and to re-litigate their political legacy so as to hold them accountable as they vie for the most powerful political position in the world. It's our job to bring this stuff up now so we don't end up with this right-wing dumb*ss as our party representative and possible president. This isn't a game. There are real consequences that we and more vulnerable people have to live with if this colossal moron wins the nomination (and almost certainly loses to Trump).

Joe Biden was ALWAYS against segregation. Do not confuse public busing with segregation. Those are different issues. And busing didn't work anyway, and it was abandoned later. So your point is COMPLETELY POINTLESS.

...What the h*ll are you talking about? "Public busing" wasn't related to segregation? It was literally an attempt to desegregate racially segregated schools by busing students from previously all white schools to previously all black schools or vice versa.

In the majority of areas, it was busing black children to white schools. It wasn’t that the white people were the only ones against it. The black parents didn’t want their kids on buses for hours everyday. They wanted their children to go to neighborhood schools, to the same schools they had gone to and graduated from. Black people have a strong sense of community and they didn’t want to be involved in the busing mess either.
