What about Quebec  :bradley:

Wasn't it  Quebec the only state that wanted to seek independence ? i mean they did try to seek independence by conducting referendum 2 times  in a period of 5 year right? . i wonder what happen to that?:oprah:. i guess people doesn't like being Canadian anymore:bradley:

Quebec for many years has been less adamant on that especially cuz it seems like the younger generation doesn't care for seperation

But because of issues with the energy industry and a feeling like the Federal Government takes taxes from resource industries but then never supports them...

Alberta and Saskatchewan for several years have been very salty with the rest of Canada

They are also the 2 most Conservative Provinces and often don't agree with the rest of the Nation's Politics

Alberta for your example had a Conservative Provincial Government for 40 years straight. Last election they tried a different government and now they are back to Conservative again

wow this situation reminds of the situation in uk where i stayed for quite a while

Scotland and northern Ireland has never been pleased with england

and Scotland independence is still one of the big debates there( i do hope Scotland does seek independence as  i honestly love that country and it deserves better  and  it's said how it forefathers like William Wallace and Robert the Bruce  fought for this country independence only to be merged with England hundred of years later :bradley: )

pressed unionist supporters coming at me now:ally:

It also reminds me of my Country Belgium

Where rich dutch speaking Flanders wants to split with the poorer French speaking Wallonia. In the last election from 3 weeks ago the 2 separist parties won 45% of the votes in Flanders. There biggest result ever :bradley:

Yeah, separation's not happening. You saw how that went for Catalonia.

Scotland on the other hand might be in a different situation after (or if) Brexit happens, but in the short term it really wouldn't benefit them to leave the UK, speaking mostly from an economic point of view.

But the thing is I think that unlike in Spain it is constitutional possible to split the country...

But it is highly unlikey since most people don't want it. The biggest seperist party doesn't want it anymore but will opt for confederalism. And people just for the other seperist party because they are extreme right. And then you have the whole issue of Brussels. Which lays is Flanders but is Billingual and is also the de facto capital of the EU and host the headquarters of NATO

I think that the union in Canada, much like the USA, was formed as a survival tactic as to remain independent from colonial European governments..

Later economic viability....so each part of Canada is not really in danger of invasion or economic failure, the need to bond as one has dissapeared

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

Yeah I think the history is simmilar to the US

Each Province was its own thing and joined as different governments to form a Union (Confederation)

This may explain why both Canada and the US are both less Centralized than much of the world and why States and Provinces in North America remain with a lot of power

The veto power that EU countries have is also another factor. Let's say Catalonia could break off of Spain, do you think Spain would ever let them join the EU after that? Hell no. Same would happen with Belgium.

There's just too many factors that could hinder a new country from developing how it should after becoming independent so I don't think there's any real chance of it happening in Belgium or Canada, especially with both being very highly developed countries. Scotland is a very particular case, we'd have to wait and see.
