Sharing because I thought she had a good message and a strong delivery. She was responding to comments made by some religious leaders, but the message is to the LGBT community.

"God loves you. Nobody can tell you God doesn't. You're the only person who knows your relationship with God, so you stand proudly. We don't want you to be afraid that people aren't gonna get it. It doesn't matter whether they get it. This is about who YOU are. Be proud of who YOU are, and there's a whole bunch of us standing with you. And you know what, even if other people don't get it, don't get mad at them. Spend a little time with them and help them understand, because a lot has happened in the gay community very quickly. Some people have to catch up, and you have to understand that as well. Just never put your head down. Always be proud of who you are. God does not make mistakes."

The Catholic Church is the utmost in hypocrisy. I say this as someone who went to Catholic school through college. It is a religion founded on scripture that portrays Christ as preaching tolerance, forgiveness, selflessness, compassion without end, and anti-capitalism. Yet its tenants are opulence, greed, judgement, and prejudice against those who are different.

Sunny also made a great point on the show today. The Church is so hypocritical, it’s disgusting.

Biggest Fan

I think it’s time for me to be open about who I am

This made my eyes watery and emotional

The support and truth she speaks

God bless her.

I run a LGBT mental health support group and tonight we had someone dealing with living in a group home where the roommates are homophobic and religious. I read this to the group after everyone gave him some suggestions, and a couple people actually teared up.

Wow that's interesting. Can you elaborate on some of the issues these people face regarding their sexuality? Or is it also things like gay people struggling to accept that they are gay?

Most people who come to group just want a queer safe space to get support for their struggles, even though those struggles are struggles anyone might have. But we do have the occasional issue related specifically to being LGBT. Some ones I've heard recently are:

- being conflicted about using the pronouns they feel most comfortable with because of pressure from friends and family

- being unsure if they are bisexual or gay and struggling to come out at all because of the uncertainty

- having to leave their church because of their orientation or gender

- being afraid to come out to specific family members because of their views and the likelihood the family member would abandon them

- fear of taking a job in a new town because the town population is under 1,000 and they may be the only queer person there, but they have no other choice because of finances

- and most common: not knowing how to meet people for dating or a relationship because our city is small, our community hooks up so much, and the only always-available places to meet someone queer are bars.
