Canada stands up for abortion - minus the Conservative party

With the Conservative Party ministers attending anti-abortion rallies and currently leading the upcoming election pools, let’s take into account that Canadians deserve better than that.

The House of Commons just gave a standing ovation for abortion rights — minus the Conservatives

With reproductive rights under assault south of the border, members of the Canadian House of Commons rose in a standing ovation to affirm support for a woman’s right to choose — that is, except the Conservatives.

One day after Global News reported that dozens of Canadian woman across the country are being sent to the U.S. for abortions they cannot access here and on the heel of a pledge by the Quebec government to make late-term abortion accessible to women in the province, Bloc Quebecois MP Monique Pauzé asked for unanimous consent on a motion related to abortion.

Her motion asked “that the House of Commons reiterate that a woman’s body belongs to her and her alone, and recognize her right to choose an abortion regardless of the reason.”

In response, Liberal, NDP, Green Party, Bloc Quebecois and Independent members rose to applaud her statement.

But the Conservatives stayed in their seats and did not applaud.

@Economy knows more than me on that i guess. I’d say yes but not as much as in the US i guess 🤔

Not so much religion because we don't have a dominant religion like say in Southern US states with the Christian religions that usually favour conservatives. Here most religious ones are the immigrants not old white conservatives so religion here is too mixed up to have a base

 

Conservative MPs here won't ever mention God or the bible morals the way u hear them do in the US especially in red states

 

But while religion itself may not be a big thing they definitely are slower to accept social change and they do have older social values yes 

 

Like they weren't on board with Nationalizing same sex marriage in 2005 tho they didn't try to reverse it when the conservatives reigned shortly after from 2006 to 2015

 

Most of the time conservatives here fight during the debate but once a liberal government Liberalizes a policy they usually won't reverse it either once they come into power.... But they won't take the initiative ever to expand stuff like gay rights or gender equality even tho they don't usually stand in the way anymore

 

Socially speaking the Conservative Government here is not to the level of the US Republicans but Economically speaking they are pretty close

 

Our top income bracket before Trudeau raised it to 33% was 29% under the conservatives and Corporate taxes were lowered to 15% tho Trudeau never raised it back
