Lol it's Telephone.. her most demanding choreography, a song that doesn't show any vocal abilities, a song Gaga doesn't care about so she's not putting effort. She usually uses backtrack for that one so I'm actually pleasantly surprised she sang that much :laughga: I don't see a problem in the TEOG performances posted above..

We need to admit that her best vocals were during her jazz era with Cheek to Cheek. Recently it seems like she’s trying to sing deeper for some reason, and it does sound like she’s straining for some notes. I actually preferred the tone she had during TF, TFM, and BTW days

To an extent, I agree. That said, she completely flips that script with Jazz + Piano where, in my opinion, she sounds better than she ever has.

I'm wondering if the physicality of a "traditional" pop show might just be a little too much for her, as of recently? She was fine during JWT, but maybe it's starting to hit harder?

I'm sorry but you can hear that she's forming her sound in almost the exact same way in these videos, her technique hasn't got worse she's not an inconsistent amateur. Tonally there's almost nothing different. The problem is that her technique hasn't got worse, it's stayed worse. She's used damaging techniques for years, what monsters are starting to hear is the damage it's caused. She's pushed harder to compensate for that decline for a few years(me and a friend were talking about this clear back in 2017 and got laughed at ;)) and it wasn't noticeable until now. She's in her mid-thirties and her tone should be darker than it was when she recorded The Edge Of Glory when she was 25 and the combination of that, the horrible technique, and the vocal damage is what you're hearing here.

When she's singing songs without that screaming and tension in her sound she's known for, she still has the potential to sound beautiful and far better than any of her peers.

I wouldn't say it's damage but more that she's clearly putting more vocal effort into the jazz show. And I can imagine it's difficult to constantly be changing the style of singing. She's using the same techniques, as far as I can tell here, but it is a jazz technique that is not really suited to her pop songs and we're seeing the difference. This is the first time she's doing them both so concurrently so I imagine that that's the problemo, if you can call it that.

I'm not gonna be rude or anything to you, but every single time a person makes a thread about this, the thread turns into a complete mess. I always see people tearing down Gaga's vocals and I'm really sick of it. People over exaggerate that she can't sing anymore or I can't bear to hear her sing anymore when she still sounds amazing. We just have overly high expectations with Gaga. The last thread about this same topic made me feel so disappointed with this fanbase (in GGD) because they are tearing down her for no reason. You can have an opinion about Gaga, but please try to be respectful. Your comment "like almost unbearable to hear without thinking it’ll crack or break at any second" is very harsh imo.

Why do y’all have to be such snowflakes? :air:

I think that's why ENIGMA needs to be revamped. Not because fans don't like it, not because fans don't like the setlist, or because her fans are as toxic as Chernobyl as you guys want to make us look :air:

ENIGMA needs to be revamped, because she just can't hit the same notes nor do the same pitchy baby vocals at this age! Most of the songs are in the same original key, where she'd originally do the pitchy pop baby voice when she was younger. But her vocals training has changed, and you can see that when she hit the Jazz era, her voice became more polished, more mature. So of course it will sound off when she tries to sing her old songs in the same key :air:

That's why her Jazz and Piano show sounds way better, her songs were revamped, adjusted to her new tone of voice. Also, there is no dancing. At ENIGMA, Gaga is dancing all the time, and we know her body just can't do what it would do almost a decade ago. It's exhausting for her, and it gets obvious when she starts the acoustic section. She's tired because a big part of the show consists in dancing, screaming and push her vocal chords for a more pitchy tone she can't naturally do.

To that, add the fact she's been working a lot with no resting! She's probably stressed as hell too. Cause we know she's a perfectionist, and she will try her 100% in every show, but sometimes it won't pay off

She's obviously not worse, if she was, her Jazz and Piano show would be a huge MESS. She's not worse, she's just tired and demands herself more than she can do.

PG.

I hate comments like this because they imply a woman shouldn't enjoy her f*cking life because other people think she should preserve a certain body part for their consumption

I mean, when her profession is based off of a very specific part of her body I think it's more business advice than it is any male gaziness.

If she were not in entertainment, specifically entertainment that relied on her voice, then I would agree, but Gaga is a singer...if she wanted to smoke and drink to excess (not saying she does, I'm saying if she wanted to do those things), there are probably other jobs more conducive to that because if you can't sing much anymore it's hard to be singer...

I don't know from technique. But as a listener, I know that Early/Monster Ball era Gaga sang live with real rock n roll rage (husky growls and screaming belts). Is it possible... that writing songs for yourself --in an era of your musicianship where raw and hard was your tendency-- ultimately means, that when you sing those songs, as a more mature vocalist, that this is what would happen? Enigma vocals and phrasing sound different (who wouldn't wanna change things up after a decade) but J&P vocals are  :firega:.

Her "pop voice"  couldn't do full justice to certain J&P songs in the past, but now she lives in the low notes honey:classy:.

I'd choose to change up my own songs a little if it meant being able to really blow on the standards.

Gaga's a professional vocalist. Changing vocal styles is actually not that difficult, and she does it for different songs within a single show, let alone different days with resting and warm ups between. The problem is the damage.

I'll rather be a snowflake than a fan saying her voice is unbearable. I seriously hate when people call me a snowflake. So, I cannot defend Gaga at all? Why do you have to be such a negative person most of the time. I always see you get negative towards other members and I am really sick of it.

Let me just say since you're here, I'm sorry if I made you upset, I didn't really mean it when I said her voice was unbearable. You're doing your part as a Little Monster and that shall be respected

But if there was damage, wouldn't it also be apparent in the jazz shows? That's where I don't get what you're saying.

It is.  This video is timestamped. The effects are just more apparent at Enigma because she makes gigantic sounding explosive top 40 pop songs.
