I dunno maybe she was having an off day or was nervous and she didn't sound her usual amazing self but I think it definitely was poor vocals in comparison to what we know she's capable of

I don't think she's ever really sang Telephone that great except for the superbowl, and the main difference is her vocals in the halftime show sounded open and light whereas this she sounds like shes singing from her throat (?) to make it thicker and deeper which I don't think really sounds good with any singer

You need to watch other videos but the audio of these videos are really bad. It really distorts the bass and instrumental and vocals, it makes the audio sound imbalanced when it clearly wasn't the case in real life if you attended that show in person.

Gaga has flaws. She's not perfect. You guys should stop taking every little piece of critique as a personal attack.

Anyways, it's only the last few months that her voice started to sound weird, her voice was really good when she started Enigma. Hopefully it's just a phase.

It doesn’t sound great but she’s singing it in a different key.  I feel like Telephone has to be sung either in a higher and whinier key or this one, the higher is probably worse for her voice if she’s recovering from anything effecting it so she’s forced to sing it lower like this.

She’s demanding a lot from her voice with the Enigma show... she can’t risk slamming it on every song

Here's a more fair comparison. Her voice is very clearly damaged, you can hear she's raspier and more closed off, but she's still a world class performer, and when songs are more in her range they sound much better/not that different to 10 years ago.

 

 

 

Its intentional i think. Her pop voice will never be the sameagain since she is now singing jazz. Thats not a good comparison.

Using this song and this video example is such an nasty ass unfair smear against Gaga, truly one of the best technical singers of our generation. It is a song that highlights the weak points of the voice in any female singer. The notes are written in the range where most women have to switch between head/mix/chest voice. Gaga's mix soars at a high D sharp and above, as well as sits naturally in the chest around  a middle A or B. This song requires her to push her lower register (chest) up or bring her upper register (head/mix) down, which is challenging for ANY singer.

I'm sure if you were pull up a clip of 'Shallow' from this same show, I'd bet my bottom dollar she sounds amazing. That, or even 'The Edge of Glory',  another song written specifically for her voice.  Or 'Poker Face', which sits in her lower register.

My thoughts exactly. I’d say from this performance she was pushing the chest up because that’s typically when Telephone sounds “strained”. I find that it is more or less her both trying to push her range up and project it at the same time (as our girl’s a belter especially with Telephone live lol). As Gaga’s upper tone is nowhere near as strong as her lower one, yeah it would make sense it sounds a bit forced when she does this because while she can hit it, it’s very clearly not where she’s vocally most at home especially while dancing.

 

Telephone is also a song that a pretty agile vocalist would do which is why Beyoncé shines pretty well on it (not to mentjonal was not written for Gaga herself). She’s exceptionally agile and while Gaga is as well, I wouldn’t say she’s developed that as strongly while dancing (as most people haven’t lol).

 

And also also we’re used to hearing her in stadiums and arenas and theaters plainly sound different which I would probably guess is where a lot of these comments come from. She hasn’t done her hits in theaters in roughly a decade meanwhile her jazz shows sound different as she pretty much only performs jazz in clubs and theaters (different tone and technique aside, obviously).
