Pitchfork: Miley Redefines Embarrassing

“Cattitude” is proudly unserious, but it’s also kind of embarrassing. “Turn up your gratitude, turn down your attitude/I love my ***, that means I got cattitude” packs the energy of a self-help slogan and a rejected Lizzo track. Perhaps anticipating blowback to the *** hat of pop songs, the version on Cyrus’ new She Is ComingEP adds an extensive feature from RuPaul, who playfully smuggles in some exploration of genderqueer sex. Shame it should wind up lodged in this mess, where the highlight is, alas, Miley’s interpolation of Missy Elliott’s iconic rum-pum-pum-pum in “Work It.” “Cattitude” is entertaining, sure, but who’s being entertained?

Well the song is really bad and the lyrics are cringey...

Even worse when performed live...

Honestly people, who takes a song like Cattitude seriously... it's a fun song, leave it at that :crossed:

It’s a fun drag queen type song.  Drag music could literally be its own genre and it’s pretty cool that Miley is paying tribute like this (or it’s kind of cultural appropriation but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt)

Let her have fun. Yes. The song is supposed to be campy.

I like it but her less successful ARTPOP era is here

We went from Bangerz / TFM > Younger Now / Joanne > She Is MC / ARTPOP

Its really not that bad now that I’ve heard the studio version. If people are listening to it as a serious song, then of course they’re going to hate it. It’s a fun song, not meant to be a radio hit :ohwell:

This song is meant to be a hot mess. It's also based on voguing culture and how the mc or host chants nonsense to similar type of beats in ballroom challenges. It's fun and nasty at the same time. But I get how for most it can sound volatile. To me it did exactly what its purpose was which was to be fun, messy and volatile in the most camp of ways
