I think that’s why any looks that’ll be in exhibit are likely to be from tours than anything street style which is just straight off the runway. In the Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson photobook, there's photos of her backstage rack at the 2010 VMA's which had this outfit. Similar photo pictured here (right behind that older white man): On one hand, that outfit could have also easily just been lent for that evening as an outfit option. On the other hand, there are several indications that she owns McQueen archive couture pieces privately (Taylor buying her three pairs of the armadillo heels, that video of her owning that spinal piece, etc). 3 points in and ready for more

It's totally possible McQueen gifted her the look! I just think she wasn't in her usual position to be like 'okay, I'll buy it then' if he couldn't/wouldn't part with it. It's wild to think this look predates her most famous looks. The other possibility is that she bought it (or a copy) afterwards! She reportedly spend $100,000 on this McQueen dress, afterall. OMonster 14,724
Are you guys sure that Gaga doesn't own the majority of her 'iconic' looks - irrespective of their origin? She may not have owned a lot of her fashion *then*, but I am quite sure she / her team will have purchased them in retrospect. Sure, not everything - but the Bad Romance costumes for example, I would be astounded if she didn't own these. She's worth around 400 million by this point. If she wanted something, she could get it. subtext / fantasy
