I support this release plan :staymad: the first EP sounds great, keep going.

I'd prefer a whole album release but I'm not complaining, 18 new songs is great

Now this is the kind of release strategy that is required for the streaming era.

Unfortunately, because of how music consumption is now based on algorithms... the only way to gain traction is to already have a place within the algorithm. And the only way to have a place within said algorithm is to release new music frequently.

And by dividing an album up in this way, Miley is going to remain at the forefront of the algorithm through constantly bringing people back to her. It also sorts out the 'singles' issue in the streaming era, as it allows for the EPs themselves to act as the singles in promotion of the wider album... which is actually quite genius.

Releasing one, isolated, 'lead' single in the streaming era is never going to work anymore. It's a shame, but it doesn't have to destroy the idea of an 'era' - the strategies just needs to be refreshed.

Also gives Gaga the ability to release 3 EPs this year in rapid succession and gain 3 more #1 albums :usrs:

Well, if artists (and their teams) capitalise on the streaming system... there is every probability that an artist could really exploit the benefits here.

Take Taylor Swift, for example. I think it's *very* likely that she is going to drop a double album, with two separate release dates.

The first half is likely to garner so many streams / sales that it will debut at #1.

Maybe two weeks later, the second half will also garner that same interest... again, debuting at #1.

With the second half available on streaming services, knowing Taylor, she will release a physical joint version of the album... increasing sales even further.

So, adding together the first half of the album, the second half of the album, and the physical 'full' album = possibly triple the usual sales.

Economically, this is how a big artist with a large fanbase (who will support so many 'versions') can 'beat' the streaming era. Notoriously, streaming does not pay enough. But with this model, suddenly streaming = more money than ever before.

I completely agree. It also gives the ability to release new singles a few weeks later when the 2nd and even 3rd parts of the whole album are released.

You could game it where single #1 comes out, 3-4 weeks later the 1st chunk of the album aided by the first single. 2 weeks after that the middle part of the album with the 2nd single (being the best single the artist has) then followed up by the last part of the album in conjunction with the full physical release and other goodies to end it on a bang.

The old formula of releasing a single, then the album, then 3-4 more singles (or in Gaga's case, 1 more single :derpga:) is just not going to make it. Streaming is a problem for artists but that means artists need to be more creative!
