Disney And Netflix Takes A Stand Against Georgia's Abortion Law Plan

Many of Hollywood’s most powerful content companies have maintained a deafening silence on the raging abortion legislation debate that’s sweeping the country as their star talent and producers go off script to speak out about threats to women’s reproductive rights and boycott states like Georgia that have signed the bills. Protests are erupting on the ground and across social media as seven other states — including Alabama, Missouri and Ohio — also adopt anti-abortion laws.

Most of the industry uproar is currently focused on Georgia, where a massive number of Hollywood movies and TV shows film thanks to a highly favorable state tax incentive.

Disney has filmed blockbuster movies in Georgia such as "Black Panther" and "Avengers: Endgame," and it would be a blow to the state's efforts to create production jobs if the entertainment giant stopped filming there.

Asked if Disney would keep filming in Georgia, Iger said it would be "very difficult to do so" if the abortion law is implemented.

"I rather doubt we will," Iger said in an interview ahead of the dedication for a new "Star Wars" section at Disneyland. "I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully."

 As are Netflix, “We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in an exclusive statement. “It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there, while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.”

Georgia's Republican governor signed into law on May 7 a ban on abortion after a doctor can detect a fetal heartbeat — about six weeks into a pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant. The law is due to take effect on Jan. 1, if it survives court challenges.

It's so weird that it comes from Disney lol, we are talking about their future potential customers

while not directly related, but deals with the company's position progressive vs conservatory, i really wonder if Disney is going to make Elsa a lesbian 

that'd be so great and inclusive, and shows Disney adaptation to nowadays reality, (not of growth of lgbt population but of acceptance )

but Elsa is a character that is already well established, they're really making a 180° turn on how she's perceived by the audience, like they did with luke skywalker, and that didn't go well with the public

i'm curious

Not really. That is exactly what these Conservatives thinks right now as their defense to boycott Disney.

But to support Abortion doesn't mean every women will do that. There will still be people who will birthing babies/ out of love and pour them with attention. Supporting abortion is just a bold stand that it is not OK to make such law because some people don't or can't keep their fetus for all kinda of reasons and they deserve rights to do so, instead of criminalize them.

I'm pro-abortion, it's awesome that Disney and Netflix supports it, unlike Coca Cola (DRINK PEPSI FROM NOW ON).

My sister did an abortion few years ago, by choice and all the family supported her, it's a tough decision, the last thing that a woman needs is some crazy lunatic people to judge her choices, tell her what to do or worst, dictate her what to do.

I guess they could make her lesbian if they wanted to. Yes, she is well established, but there was also no indication whatsoever of a romantic [heterosexual] relationship. If Elsa had a prince boyfriend in the first movie and then all of a sudden made it to where she had a girlfriend, then I could undersand why some people would get mad/offended. Because some people have already been speculating, and because it wasn't even established in the first movie, I could see them making her lesbian.
