Yeah people seem to care more about longevity than peak tbh, like ME! didn't flop but it wouldn't have gotten where it was if it wasn't for various deals. Because yuppp it's freefalling now. That truly is how you can tell if something's really popular (Example: Dope peaking at #9 because it was featured in a Youtube ad or something and then it tanked after)

Girl Gaga also does this for Born This Way with Radio Deals left and right.. doesn’t mean BTW success is payola love.

But that was also smashing on iTunes lettuce not forget and people cared about the song and message, my point with Katy is the GP well....... um.... aren't really here for her anymore:icega:she won't be smashing on iTunes, she hasn't for 3 years now. Radio and spotify deals will probs be the only thing keeping it afloat if it does peak high, and my point is that it seems like cheating bc it's not a true representation of a song's popularity

Stans will drag Gaga if her singles underperform but be like "Katy queen of pop!" bc Katy has a hit because of radio play, which I'm sure will soon freefall after the first couple of weeks, but it's just so frustrating

I really hate to see Gaga dragged and I probably care too much about charts but :saladga:

Hopefully Gaga can have another big hit from LG6, it must feel great to succeed without rigging it

Yes you clearly care waaaay to much about charts and what some gays on twitter think about someone that doesn’t even know you exist?:laughga:girl go outside go suck a d or whatever it’s not that serious luv

Sis can have all the deals she wants in place. If the GP ain’t here for it. It’s gonna drop like a rock. Making the deals even more blatantly obvious. If the GP latch on, then good investment.

You really are living in 2013. Nobody uses iTunes anymore.

You didn't have that energy when Shallow was smashing on it

These deals are very common for first singles off of an album, even Gaga has it with Born This Way :selena:

This. Gaga did it with BTW

They don't try to hide it because a radio deal for the lead is legal and allowed and so it is not called Payola

If Katy did this she didn't do anything wrong

She's still a big name artist despite not performing as well as she used to...

Promotion is part of the business and everyone acts like she's sinning so badly :triggered:

So whether music does well on iTunes (which 97% of people don't use anymore) determines whether or not it's ok to use a radio deal? :duck:

Also, let's not act like radio stations don't benefit from this. If you owned a station, wouldn't you want to play such a huge release as much as possible?

But it doesn't make sense to me anyway, radios should base their playlists on what's popular, not what they're being probably paid to play which will then chart high and deemed a success mostly because of that airplay which actually had no indication of how popular a song is

They are, and there's a 99% chance that a lead single from Katy Perry would be popular, that's why they're doing it proactively. There's huge demand for releases like this and radio stations aren't stupid not to give listeners what they want.

This is also the exact same reason Spotify puts huge releases on top of TTH right away.

that's not payola... its a radio deal.

This! Payola is supposed to be illegal

Radio deals for lead singles are not illegal

Artists get radio deals for one week only, I think Gaga had one for BTW and PI
