I don't believe it's beneficial to hate on our (mostly) capitalist system without providing a clear and convincing counterargument. AOC has provided a concise counterargument many times, of course, but it doesn't appear she wants to do away entirely with our free market system either. I think AOC would be better off if she snagged headlines for her incredible policy ideas that restrict (but clearly don't abolish) our predominately capitalist system. Sidenote: Yes, increasing taxes on the wealthy and distributing that tax money to the indigent DOES work. Conservatives want to characterize AOC as anti capitalist and wanting to dismantle everything just because she calls herself a democratic socialist. It’s the easiest thing for them to do. They did it to Obama and he never even called himself a democratic socialist. He’s a straight up neoliberal. Its boring. But they’ll keep at it. AOC has multiple times asserted the idea of a mixed economy, which is the type of economy that we have today. The only problem is that our political and tax system is rigged to favor the rich and corporations. She and many others are fighting to balance it out. That’s all this is. A recalibration. An even redistribution. Anyone in the middle class who is arguing against a higher marginal tax rate for people making over 10 million a year, is arguing for the ultra rich to retain a level of wealth that they themselves will never see in their lifetime. And because governments cut school funding to balance budgets that have been derailed for the sake of corporate subsidies and Taxcuts?
