Would you stan a male artist?

There's something about 'stan culture' that almost innately lends itself to the worshipping of 'fierce' female pop artists.

But would you ever be able to stan - properly stan - a male artist? Or more specifically... a gay male artist. 

If there were a Gaga-esque, gay male artist - would you guys be as obsessed? As in for the music, the videos, the eras, the looks... particularly the looks actually, as I wonder if you could get as excited about a male's clothes (even if they were outrageous and gender-bending) as you could over a female's? 

I ask because I find it interesting how most of the most iconic male artists in history have been either gay, bisexual or at least sexually ambiguous. Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, Prince (ambiguous) - and the list goes on. But I'm not sure if these kind of artists would've captured stan culture in the same way Gaga has.

Why? Because, super sadly,  I think there is something quite toxic about gay people and their relationship to prolific gay people. And since stan culture is interlocked with gay culture, do you think the gay community would /really/ get behind a gay artist, as they have for Gaga?

For an example of this toxicity, you only have to look to the recent James Charles drama and how the gay community turned on him so quickly. And, in terms of musicians, look at this forum's reaction and attitude to Sam Smith... and even Troye Sivan to a certain extent, too. Is it because these guys just aren't interesting? Or is there something more deep-rooted? Or could a gay star truly rise as they have before?

Duh. I don't care about the gender I just tend to like more female voices a bit more but if I really like a male artist's music ofc I'll stan.

I don't think I stan solo male singers, but I do stan groups like Coldplay and Bastille!

Used to stan JT tho, until his new album came out and... yeah

Ofc! I don’t really “Stan” male artists because they never really give me what I need, it just ends up feeling lackluster. But if the time comes when we get a gay that gives it all like Gaga ofc I would! We need that representation so that gp can realize how much flavor we have only time will tell!

I only listen to female music.

i can make few exceptions if i really like the song but the only songs from men that i like are usually from the early 2000. 

They just can’t compare to pop girls nowadays 

Also, yeah, i’m really interested in visuals and looks and they all have to come together for the era and guys just never do that

if a male artist ever served some interesting looks yeah   but off of the top of my head I can't think of any males currently who serve interesting looks. They're just like.. stylish (mostly)

Lately the only queer male artists that have risen are so boring I can't fathom how they have a following. A lot of them profit from the fact that they are queer. The only (modern) queer male artist I like is Sakima. I mostly listen to females simply because I like their voice more, or their style of music different from the others.

Yeah, absolutely. It's just that in today's music (or at least in today's popular music), I can't really find a male artist that I can really stan. 

As for the James Charles thing, that's a difference scenario. It wasn't so much that it was the "gay community turning on him", but literally everyone turned on him. There was also, arguably, also a very valid reason why people turned on him during that time too. 

With Sam Smith, I feel like a lot of the time people here joke about him. I don't think anyone truely has any hate or animosity towards him, and if they do, then they need to get over it. He won his Oscar, nothing's going to change from that, get over it. I, personally, like his stuff, but not to the level at which I would decide to 'stan' him though. 

Finally with Troye Sivan, I just was never really interesting in his music.
