Just because something like this is encouraged by Trump, doesn't mean that it's bad per se.

In my country it's the progressive parties fighting against Huawei with regards to 5G networks. The tactics the Chinese government uses to spy on people are numerous and it includes Huawei.

When I was in China, I downloaded their social media apps because that's the only way you can communicate with other Chinese. Some Chinese restaurants even have you order through WeChat. So I got that app. A few months later I read an article from the Dutch government to be careful with Chinese social media apps and preferably use a throw-away phone for them. I still had WeChat on my phone, and without using it for 3 months still ate ~5% of my phone's battery away per day. The only thing I can think of is that WeChat was actively being used to spy on my phone's activities.

The extent to which China goes to spy on Western companies is... scary.

wechat is definitely an app that monitors you. for example in china, its believed taht the police have secret access to every group chat on wechat. the authority considers large group chat a threat to security. people outside china wont know how many people are detained or jailed for talking about politics in wechat groups. as a chinese i have given up on using wechat to talk about anything in group chat, because of fear.

i do not know what to make of huawei being banned. i dont consider them a bad company and i dont think mr ren is a bad person. i respect his speech on cctv the other day. i dont know if there is actually any real evidence pointing to their criminal act. i have never bought any phone by huawei though, because i dont like their UI. and i dont really trust them when it comes to privacy. but again i dont see any real evidence. if huawei is spying on foreign countries, it wont be hard to collect evidence of their phones collecting personal information of users, i suppose. i consider the ban more of a consequence of the ongoing trade war between china & u.s.
