Several refineries in Europe got clogged after Oil imported from Russia was found to be contaminated

At this point the exact type of contamination is not being reported however the possibility that it was deliberate is being considered

As a precaution, Europe for now has stopped importing Oil from Russia

They produce 11M barrels of oil a day that's the second most after the US

You can't just cut them off for long it would be chaos world wide. A true energy crisis

Max

They have found an extensive mass of chlorine in the oil in Poland (Chlorine is mostly used for sour crude oil).

Really? I didn't think chlorine would be used in the purification process

Interesting

Interesting

The chlorine is/was in the crude oil, means the chemical plants  can't handle that much amount of it, even if they had the best  desalinators in the world :air:

Gas right now is almost $5/gal because California only uses a specific blend from local refiners and half the refiners are experiencing various problems. I wonder if this is partially why?

I'm so  tired of Russia :coffee:

I don't know. The US doesn't import much from Russia as far as I know but maybe there's some that comes from there?

Also some refineries aren't running at full capacity because there's a shortage of heavy Oil right now. Are many refineries in California built for heavy Oil?

Most outages in the world have been from heavy oil producing areas...

Venezuela lost a tone of production due to the crisis and they produce mostly heavy oil... Iran is sanctioned and their exports now are small and they too produced heavy Oil. Also Saudi Arabia cut production to lift prices but they produce a lot of heavy Oil as well

Canada produces mostly heavy Oil but we can't increase exports of it right now because our pipeline issues are still dragging. Our pipelines are full and can't carry any more until more are built

The US in the meantime is surging production in shale oil but it's mostly a light grade of oil

There's too much light oil on the market and not enough heavy oil. So any refineries that are built to process heavy oil have a hard time right now

I only know what I know from the LA Times tbf but basically only a dozen refineries in California and a few in Washington state produce California reformulated gasoline. I assume  there are enough refineries built for heavy oil because California refining is an extremely self-isolating industry until the wheels come off the operation and there's no one to save our a**es.

This was the official story in the LA Times two weeks ago  :bradley:

"Besides significant unplanned refinery maintenance, rising ethanol prices and California’s switch to a more eco-friendly gas blend for the summer months, starting April 1, have contributed to a lower gas supply, DeHaan said."

Ah ok

I can't comment much there cuz I honestly don't know much about Californias refining industry

Our gasoline grade here in Ontario also changes April 1st and is also more expensive as well

Between the new carbon tax and the April 1st summer grade, and higher oil prices, gas has gone up like 20% in the last month here :emma:

So strange. I wouldn’t be so quick to say it’s intentional... why would Russia WANT a war? This is the kind of thing that starts wars.

I doubt it would be the company or even Government that would poison their own product that makes no sense

By intentional they probably mean someone or some party that it passed thru or had some kind of access to it did this on purpose to sabatoge either Russian oil or European Refineries

It doesn't mean it had to be the exporters themselves. As you said, they would have nothing to gain from this on the contrary it hurts their reputation

Could be the Ukrainian situation...a large percentage of that region don't want Russian control . Sabotage isn't off the list here..

As far as cutting Russia off completely, it's not realistic. They contribute too much to global supply.

That’s true. I really hope not nothing happens... We have too many powerful weapons. Everyone needs to chill out or we’re all gonna die
