Lol.. Watch it debut at No. 1 on BB HOT 100.. Critics are Irrelevant when it's actually the public who really decides the fate of a single.. Period!

I wouldn't be surprise if the critics are sabotaging her now after she signed the new contract, I mean it's not worst than any other song that was released in the last years

And it isn’t better either. Thats the problem.

But does commercial performance tell a song's quality?

I'm not a fan of the song and yes I think it's basic but I guess it serves its purpose. It's supposed to be all fun, colors, bubblegum and stuff, and it is so..

sure, it's not, but they are too harsh on her.. "everything wrong with pop" I mean come on, they praised Closer.. this was everything wrong with pop

I actually loved Closer. It works great as a summer bop.

Does it matter? Damage is done

This bit made me laugh because it's true...

"the verses call to mind a ball bouncing across a sing-along screen".

But tbh, I actually like the song (I wasn't into Reputation at all). It's just a simple, carefree pop song.

Not at all.. But I'm saying that no critic can actually stop this single from smashing.. People will be sucking up to it like every other Taylor song!

Taylor coming for Mandy Moore, S Club-7  and Jessica Simpson. Is "deliberately bad" pop songs back in trend? Those were the days though...

And who can forget this? A bop and cult classic:

To be honest, I'm here for mindless pop to be back in trend. But it needs to be irreverent.

Omg another I’m the authority on what good music is “journalist.” Wow do these articles pull the hate out in fan groups. I will admit that the songs content is... basic to say the least but I genuinely like the song, I mean is Katy Perry’s “Firework” any better? Not really, especially when you think of the time it came out in when the trend was self empowerment. There’s tons of songs that are made just to be catchy yet y’all like those including the horrifying “Closer” but yeah, Taylor’s song is everything wrong with pop. 👌🏻

Katy's best song being compared to Taylor's worst ever. :messga:

That’s definitely not Katy’s best song... it’s one of her most basic formulaic songs from the trend following to the basic childish lyrical content to the melodic formula they used for not only that song but almost all of the songs on Teenage Dream. Don’t get “best song” confused with “most popular song” & why it is the most popular of hers. Just saying 🤷🏻‍♂️

jfc not every song has to be dark and edgy. let the poor girl live and just do what she wants. the song is amazing. the video reminds me of Broadway and brendon just adds to the theatricality of it all. 10/10. this might just make me stan Taylor.
